Job Title: Special Education Teacher Department: Lynde School
Position Summary: Deliver individualized academic and behavioral instruction to students with disabilities in alignment with NYSED standards, IEPs, and agency policies. Promote student growth in a supportive, inclusive environment. Full-time, 10-month position with a 6-week summer program; requires flexibility for meetings, family communication, and professional development.

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging 6:1:1 classroom environment in alignment with student needs and behavioral plans.
+ Provide active supervision of students at all times to ensure safety, engagement, and compliance with individualized education and behavior plans.
+ Develop and implement lesson plans that are standards-aligned, developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and differentiated to meet diverse learner needs.
+ Collaborate with and provide guidance to support staff to ensure consistency in instructional and behavioral strategies.
+ Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state regulations and agency procedures, ensuring all mandated services and accommodations are delivered.
+ Track and document student progress toward IEP goals through data collection, assessments, and observations; adjust instruction and interventions as needed.
+ Use assessment data, observations, and professional judgment to make informed instructional and programmatic recommendations.
+ Design engaging and personalized learning activities that reflect student interests, learning styles, and developmental levels.
+ Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development using trauma-informed and restorative practices.
+ Communicate and collaborate regularly with families, service providers, administrators, and support staff to promote consistency and student success across settings.
+ Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including lesson plans, IEP progress, incident reports, and parent communication logs.
+ Participate in required training and professional development, including maintaining TCI certification, to support continuous professional growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learning needs
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and instructional decision-making
• Knowledge of IEP development and special education compliance requirements
• Ability to maintain a calm, supportive presence in high-stress situations
• Collaborative mindset and ability to lead within a team-based classroom
+ Ability to utilize physical restraints in accordance with safety protocols youth after successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training
Qualifications
+ Current New York State Certification in Special Education (appropriate grade level) or,
+ As a condition of future employment must be working toward, or be willing to pursue, Special Education certification in appropriate grade levels
+ Valid New York State driver’s license
