Job Overview:
Seasoned individual contributor, who works independently with minimal supervision. Helps establish and implement projects, programs, and processes in support of the organization's overall Accounting strategy. Applies advanced knowledge of the accounting field to establish best of class policies, procedures, and plans for the area. Responsible for work across multiple areas of accounting including ensuring compliance with financial transaction recording standards (e.g., general ledger, cash payments/collections, tax transactions, etc.), control/reconciliation of accounts and records (balance sheet, P&L, bank accounts, etc.) and accounting reports/ schedules for internal audiences (management reporting) and/or for external audiences (compliance reporting) including consolidation of financial statements, cash flow reporting, budget reporting, etc.)
Essential Functions:
• Work independently under limited supervision to execute tasks for the Accounting department, exercising a high level of decision making to effectively resolve problems and roadblocks as they occur.
• Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights for decision-making.
• Develop and improve financial reporting processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
• Serve as a key resource for resolving complex accounting issues and discrepancies.
• Review and prepare preliminary financial statements or schedules for senior managers/Controller (including preparation and recording of adjusting journal entries for all accounts).
• Produce internal reports (e.g., expense analyses, balance sheet schedules).
• Assist with external audit requests (pulling support, preparing sample documentation).
• Ensure transactions adhere to GAAP or relevant accounting standards.
• Independently maintain and reconcile monthly assigned balance sheet accounts, including investigation and resolution of discrepancies, utilizing an audit approach, within the close deadline.
• Actively speak with key departmental personnel on assigned areas to understand the business operations “behind the numbers” in order to be an asset that bridges the Finance Team with NYRA’s Business Units.
Preferred Skills:
Financial Analysis of P&L and Balance sheet, account reconciliation and analysis, month end close experience, ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, external customers and vendors.
Skills Proficiency:
High proficiency; must be able to work independently in resolving discrepancies, analytical thinker with the ability to look above and beyond accounting mechanics and provide meaningful analyses.
Qualifications:
BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred, at least 2-4 years of experience in management accounting, public accounting experience a plus.
