Who we’re looking for:
The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a **Clinical Laboratory Technician 1** with the **Genetics & Solid Tumors Lab** at the University of Washington Medical Center – Montlake.
Join the University of Washington’s Genetics & Solid Tumors Lab Specimen Preanalytical Services team, where your precision and professionalism will directly support life-saving diagnostics. As the frontline in specimen handling, you will ensure accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery for tests that guide critical patient care decisions. What you’ll contribute:
+ Performs sample acquisition procedures to obtain materials from internal and external locations, including placing requests, follow-up, and proper documentation within associated databases.
+ Facilitates the receipt and processing of appropriate samples from internal and external pathology departments and laboratories, including:
+ Accessions and processes new requests for specimens for testing.
+ Unbatches specimens from other laboratories and matches specimens against requisitions and batch lists and verifying accurate documentation.
+ Matches specimens against reports and verifying specimen integrity.
+ Reviews and sorts the samples, archives the materials, and returns materials to outside laboratories.
+ Coordinates with multiple University of Washington departments to receive and send out specimens.
+ Performs Clinical Laboratory Assistant responsibilities, as backup or support, when needed.
+ Provides customer service and creates collaborative professional relationships, including:
+ Builds and maintains a working relationship with referral laboratories, as needed, to facilitate the sample acquisition process.
+ Answers telephones and intercoms in a courteous and professional manner, and properly triaging phone calls with warm handoffs.
+ Promotes and contributes to the development of teamwork within Genetics Division and working relationships between Specimen Processing Services, UW Pathology, and other external laboratories and pathology departments.
+ Promotes and contributes to process improvements and quality control to enhance the service to our patient including:
+ Trains new staff on the performance of Clinical Laboratory Technician 1 and Clinical Laboratory Assistant activities.
+ Audits paperwork and processes, as needed
+ Maintain databases of reports, clinical histories, and internal and external laboratory results in an organized and efficient manner.
+ Collects and assembles the documentation of clinical histories, and internal and external laboratory results in an organized and efficient manner.
+ Collects and assembles the documentation of clinical histories in packets for director review.
+ Reviews pending lists, performs routine problem resolution and escalates unique or complex problem resolution cases to a Clinical Laboratory Technician 2 or Clinical Laboratory Lead.
+ Performs other related responsibilities, as required.
What you’ll need:
+ High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience
OR
+ Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Desired qualifications:
+ Associate or bachelor’s degree in science
+ Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory
+ Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
+ Experience with pathology LIS (Epic) and CARs databases
+ Experience with MacIntosh and Windows personal computers
