Position Summary The Legal Specialist supports the organization’s legal and collections functions with a focus on garnishments, liens, and levies. This role ensures timely and accurate processing of court documents, monitors case progress, and maintains communication with attorneys, courts, and internal departments to protect company interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Primary Responsibilities
+ Track, manage, and process wage and bank garnishments in accordance with state and federal laws.
+ Communicate with external attorneys, courts, and agencies to obtain case updates, file responses, and ensure deadlines are met.
+ Review and interpret legal documents such as court orders, writs, and liens to determine proper handling.
+ Maintain accurate documentation and case records within internal systems.
+ Verify accuracy of garnishment calculations and ensure proper posting to customer accounts.
+ Coordinate with payroll and accounting teams on remittance and reconciliation of garnished funds.
+ Monitor bankruptcy filings and coordinate with counsel to ensure proper case status handling.
+ Identify and mitigate legal risks through timely escalation and documentation.
+ Support compliance and audit reviews; maintain current understanding of applicable laws.
+ Recommend and assist with workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications
Qualifications
+ Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, legal studies, or related field preferred.
+ 2–4 years of experience in legal support, collections, or financial services.
+ Working knowledge of garnishment and lien laws; experience with court filing systems preferred.
+ Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management systems.
