JOB SUMMARY

The Warehouse Supervisor (Floor-Based) is responsible for leading warehouse operations while working directly on the warehouse floor alongside associates. This role requires active supervision, real-time problem solving, and hands-on support to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate execution of receiving, shipping and inventory activities. The supervisor serves as the primary on-floor leader ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are consistently met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

On-Floor Supervision & Leadership

o Maintain a strong, visible presence on the warehouse floor throughout the shift.

o Direct and monitor daily activities including receiving, picking, packing, staging, and loading.

o Work alongside associates as needed to support workflow and meet volume demands.

o Provide real-time coaching, feedback, and directions to warehouse staff

o Ensure associates follow SOPs, work instructions, and productivity standards.

• Operations Execution

o Assign labor based on workload, priorities, and staffing levels to meet operation goals and deadlines.

o Adjust workflow throughout the shift to address bottlenecks or delays.

o Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are completed accurately and on time.

o Verify proper material handling, load accuracy, and documentation.

o Support equipment operation when required (forklift, pallet jack, etc., if certified).

• Safety & Compliance

o Enforce safety rules, PPE requirements, and equipment procedures on the floor.

o Conduct daily safety walks and correct unsafe behaviors immediately.

o Lead incident response and report safety concerns or accidents.

o Ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements.

• Inventory & Quality Control

o Ensure accurate receiving, picking, and shipping processes.

o Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and investigate inventory discrepancies.

o Monitor product handling, labeling, and storage to prevent damage or errors.

o Ensure FIFO, lot control, and quality standards are followed.

• Communication, Coordination and Team leadership

o Act as the primary point of contact between warehouse associates, clerical staff, and management.

o Communicate priorities, changes, and performance expectations clearly.

o Escalate issues related to labor, equipment, safety, or service levels promptly.

o Conduct daily meetings and communicate expectations.

o Train new hires and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.

• Reporting & Administration

o Complete shift reports, productivity tracking, and labor documentation.

o Document coaching, training, and corrective actions.

o Provide Feedback and recommendations for process improvements.

o Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly operations reports.

o Support audits, compliance checks, and customer inquiries.

o Serve as active Clerk/Coordinator/Lead/when one is not available.

• Work schedule

o Full-time; may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime as business needs require.

WORK EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:

• Proven work experience working in a Warehouse setting

• Warehousing and stock control methods and procedures

• Knowledge of warehouse software packages and MS Office proficiency

• Ability to input, retrieve and analyze data

• Warehouse operations, procedures, equipment, and terminology

• Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.

• Excellent inventory methods and practices.

SKILLS / OTHER PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

• Ability to adapt to changing operational and organization needs.

• Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.

• Ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems.

• Experience working in a union environment.

• Experience in using SAP.

• Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to adapt to work schedule dependent on business and operation needs.

• This position requires regular and prompt attendance during working hours.

FORMAL EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and three years warehouse or related experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.

• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.

• Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.

• Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.

• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds

• Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases
