Job Summary and Qualifications
HCA Healthcare’s Digital Patient Experience (DPx) organization is seeking a principal architect. This architect will be responsible for technical vision, planning, analyzing high-level requirements, defining tech stack inclusive of software, hardware, security, reliability, and scalability aspects for products in the DPx space.
The DPx organization brings to life our patient facing digital products, including hospital and physician websites, registration and scheduling, kiosks, the MyHealthONE patient portal, and more.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Define the architectural vision for patient-facing digital solutions that enhance healthcare interactions and satisfaction.
Guide the development of system architecture and integration strategies that support scalability, performance, and security.
Oversee the creation of design specifications and ensure alignment with enterprise technology standards.
Provide strategic technical direction and mentorship to development teams across the software lifecycle.
Champion best practices in architecture, design, and development across cross-functional teams.
Ensure architectural compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations by embedding security requirements into solution designs.
Advise on security frameworks, access controls, and data protection strategies to safeguard patient information.
Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into architectural requirements and solution strategies.
Lead the design and execution of proof-of-concept and proof-of-technology efforts to validate architectural decisions using real-world digital patient experience scenarios.
Proactively engage with enterprise teams to anticipate upstream changes, represent the team’s interests, and translate cross-functional technical requirements into actionable guidance.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative architectural approaches to improve patient experience and outcomes.
What qualifications you will need:
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or related field - Required
EXPERIENCE
7 or more years of experience in Software Development - Required
3 or years of experience in Solution/Software Architecture - Preferred
Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience – Could be considered
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Cloud Architecture Certifications (Azure/GCP/AWS) - Preferred
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Proven experience as a Software Architect or similar role with a track record of delivering complex solutions - Required
Proficient in applying software design patterns and development methodologies - Required
Proficient in multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technologies - Required
Experienced with data lakes, relational and NoSQL databases - Required
Familiar with cloud platforms including Azure, GCP, and AWS - Required
Experienced in building scalable systems using microservices and containers - Required
Proficient in secure design principles and security architecture - Required
Experienced in strategic planning and technology roadmap development - Required
Proficient in visual collaboration and design tools (e.g., FigJam, Visio.) - Required
Experienced in using LLMs (e.g., Claude Sonnet, Copilot) for AI-driven design & development - Required
Familiar with healthcare, privacy, and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA) - Preferred
Familiar with healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR) - Preferred
Experienced in developing patient-facing platforms including portals and telehealth - Preferred
Experienced with Sitecore or other content management systems - Preferred
Proficient in modern frontend frameworks and headless architecture - Preferred
