GENERAL DUTIES
Media Services Technicians under supervision or direction, perform technical work of varying degrees of difficulty in the set-up, operation, training, troubleshooting, general maintenance and repair of digital/analog, audio-visual, video production, DVD, computer system, digital photography, presentation, recording, projection, duplication, and related broadcast production equipment in a classroom, shop, studio or in the field. Media Services Technicians must have a general knowledge of Windows and Apple based computers along with pertinent software. They may transport equipment for on-site use or shop repair, as well as operate a motor vehicle for such purposes. All Media Services Technicians perform related work.
ASSIGNMENT LEVEL I- Under supervision, performs work of ordinary difficulty, as follows:
- Sets up, operates, does routine preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs on all types of projection equipment, portable public address systems, audio digital recorders, radios, cameras and related equipment.
- Operates and maintains video production equipment.
- Operates video and audio duplication equipment.
- Prepares equipment requisitions; maintains inventory and repair records.
- Transports equipment for on-site use or shop repair.
- Assists in the training of students and/or instructors in the operation and minor routine maintenance of audio-visual, video production and related electronic equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to video recording equipment, video receiver/monitors and related television production components.
- May supervise and/or train part-time or temporary employees.
Operates motor vehicle, as necessary.
ASSIGNMENT LEVEL II- In addition to Level II duties, incumbents will also perform those tasks performed by Level I Media Services Technicians. Under general supervision performs work of greater difficulty, as follows:
- Makes complete repairs on all types of projection equipment, portable public address systems, audio recorders, radios, and related equipment.
- Trains students, instructors and other personnel in the operations, general maintenance and minor repair of audio-visual and related electronic equipment.
- Evaluates the performance of new equipment and facilities; prepares reports on evaluation findings.
- Requisition supplies and equipment, solicits bids from outside parts vendors.
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinate personnel.
ASSIGNMENT LEVEL III- In addition to Level III duties, incumbents will also perform those tasks performed by Level I & II Media Services Technicians. Under general supervision performs work of greater difficulty, as follows:
- Installs and performs initial system checkout on video production equipment.
- Interprets system schematic wiring diagrams.
- Assists campus departments with technical problems.
- Supervises all phases of equipment and supplies purchasing, from preparation of initial requisitions to vendor liaison for expeditions delivery and payment.
- May supervise or operate a single facility of a technical service (e.g., repairs shop, media duplication offices, field repair center), supervises the personnel in such facility.
- Participate in designing new facilities and specialized devices.

Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, anddata systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effectiveuse of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessinginstitutional information.
Reporting directly to the Media Services Manager, the Media Services Technician providessupport for audio-visual technologies and video conferencing systems in conferences, training,
auditoria, and/or public spaces, as well as support for desktop video conferencing software. Thisposition is based at the GC-Fifth and will be assigned to GC-ASRC when necessary. This position requires the incumbent to work in the office.
Under the direction of the Media Services Manager, the Media Services Technician providestechnical services including the set-up, operation, maintenance, and repair of audiovisual,
video and related multimedia components, including desktop and laptop computers, in thefield, shop, or studio. Primary responsibilities are for support of classroom and other academic
program activities; on occasion, support for special events is required. The Media Services Technician must deliver excellent customer service to end users, interact and communicate effectively with coworkers, and remain current in the field.
To be considered for the position, you must have filed for the Media Services Technician exam in November 2025 (Exam # 6077).
Duties include but are not limited to:
+ Sets up and operates all types of multimedia equipment, components, and systems,
+ including video production and related equipment; sets up, operates, and breaks down a
+ range of multimedia equipment, from basic to high-end audio, video, projection,
+ videoconferencing, sound, and lighting equipment, as well as related desktop or laptop
+ computers.
+ Responsible for the delivery and picking up of all multimedia and computer
+ equipment promptly, making sure that all equipment is in working order when delivered.
+ Notes problems regarding computer, peripheral, multimedia, or communications
+ equipment or regarding the equipment operating environment, and informs the
+ supervisor.
+ Operates video and audio tape duplication equipment; assists in the recording and
+ duplication of tapes for teaching, research, thesis preparation, and transcription for
+ publication, including checking for copyright infringement.
+ Undertakes preventive maintenance, cleans, troubleshoots, and makes minor adjustments
+ and repairs to a variety of multimedia and end-user computer equipment, including such
+ components as videotape recorders, video cameras, video receiver /monitors, projection
+ equipment, portable public address systems, audio tape recorders, desktop and laptop
+ computers, and related equipment. Replaces defective components as necessary.
+ Familiarizes or trains students, faculty, and staff on the proper operation and
+ maintenance of multimedia equipment; provides technical assistance to end users.
+ Assists Media Services and Client Services colleagues with proper security, storage, and
+ transportation of equipment.
+ Maintains supply inventories and storage facilities, accounts for all inventories before and
+ after each event.
+ Maintains inventory records, usage logs, and control sheets. Maintains Media Services
+ requirements and related information on the master calendar; coordinates the master
+ calendar with the supervisor and other staff.
+ Remains compliant with all applicable policies and procedures.
+ Delivers excellent customer service to end-users.
+ Interacts effectively with colleagues across IT, as well as staff in such offices as Special
+ Events, Room Reservations, Facilities, Building Design, Public Safety, and other units at the
+ GC-Fifth and ASRC.
+ Participates in professional development activities and related opportunities to remain
+ familiar with the field.
+ Provides media service support at the GC-Fifth and ASRC buildings.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level 1
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent **and** three (3) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the repair, maintenance and routine operation of various projectors (including slide, filmstrip, opaque, over-head and sound motion picture), and other equivalent electronic equipment (including portable public address systems, digital recorders, and digital cameras); **or**
2. A certificate or diploma in radio and television mechanics or related trades from an accredited vocational high school or technical school **and** two (2) years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; **or**
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" and "2" above. Two (2) years of certified experience as a member of a high school audio-visual squad **or** one (1) year work-study experience in an approved Department of Education program which includes work with audio-visual or related electronic equipment may be substituted for six months of the experience described in "1" above.
Level 2
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent **and** four (4) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the repair, maintenance and routine operation of various projectors (including slide, filmstrip, opaque, over-head and sound motion picture), and other equivalent electronic equipment (including portable public address systems, digital recorders, and digital cameras); **or**

Level 3

**Note** : A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, may be required for certain assignments. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. If appointed to a position requiring a Motor Vehicle Driver License, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate should have:
+ Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
+ 1 to 2 years of experience in A/V & desktop support
+ Experience with video conferencing systems and streaming and streaming technology such as HyFlex, Polycom, BlueJeans, Vidyo, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.
+ Familiarity with smart classroom technology

COMPENSATION
New Hire* - $48,731/year
Incumbent Minimum - $ 55,066/year
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment.
