Jacobs is seeking a Traffic & Safety Engineer to join our project in Ocoee, FL. In this role, you'll be responsible for planning, analyzing, and implementing traffic operations and safety engineering programs that support Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSMO) objectives. This role leads data-driven traffic operations initiatives, evaluates safety performance, develops traffic engineering solutions, and manages continuing service contracts related to operational support functions (e.g., traffic studies, ITS design, data services). The position collaborates with internal teams, external stakeholders, and partner agencies to improve roadway safety and optimize system performance without direct oversight of TMC, service patrol, or incident management contracts.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Safety Engineering & Performance Analysis
• Conduct safety analyses using crash data and operational metrics to identify high-risk areas and recommend countermeasures.
• Manage the Turnpike’s bi-annual safety plan and apply Highway Safety Manual practices.
• Develop safety improvement recommendations for signing, striping, signals, and intersection control evaluations.
• Review field data, ITS outputs, and GIS information to recommend traffic and safety solutions.
Continuing Service Contract Management
• Oversee professional service contracts supporting Turnpike Traffic Operations.
• Monitor contractor performance against deliverables, compliance, and technical requirements.
• Provide input on scopes, schedules, and performance metrics to ensure reliability and alignment with Turnpike goals.
Traffic Operations & TSMO Refinement
• Lead traffic operations engineering group focused on flow optimization, freeway operations, and congestion mitigation.
• Coordinate refinement of the Turnpike’s TSMO Program and related strategic plans.
• Conduct traffic studies, analyze performance data, and evaluate operational metrics to support improvements.
• Collaborate with maintenance, planning, and engineering teams to integrate traffic operations into roadway improvement projects.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
• Prepare technical reports, memos, and presentations for leadership and external stakeholders.
• Coordinate strategies with partner agencies, consultants, and internal teams. Represent the agency in interagency working groups and committees.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering; PE license preferred (or ability to obtain within one year).
• 5 years of experience in traffic operations, engineering, or TSMO, with exposure to ITS, signal systems, and performance analysis.
• Strong understanding of contract management and safety engineering practices.
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
• Proficiency with ITS technologies and traffic software (e.g., StreetLight, VISSIM).
• Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of TSMO concepts, project development processes, and traffic engineering standards (MUTCD, FDM, FDOT Standard Specs, etc.).
• Ability to deliver presentations and maintain effective relationships.
