    Job Title: Phlebotomist II - ConyersJob Description

     

    The Phlebotomist II position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontaminating equipment. The role includes updating patient information and collecting and storing specimens in accordance with established procedures. The phlebotomist is responsible for clearly explaining the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods, such as urine or fecal samples. This position requires demonstrating techniques using straight and butterfly needles, understanding all physician orders, and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. The role involves labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing specimens as necessary, checking test requisitions for accuracy, packaging specimens for transport, and storing specimen samples at the required temperature. Compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and attending annual department trainings are essential. The role also includes answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

    + Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

    + Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.

    + Understand and follow physicians' orders.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    Essential Skills

    + Phlebotomy expertise with over 3 years of recent experience.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + Proficiency in venipuncture, blood draw techniques.

    + Experience with specimen processing.

    + Customer service skills.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with 15+ patient draws per day.

    + Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations.

    Work Environment

    The work environment is based in a clinical laboratory setting at LabCorp PSC, with potential relocation after the contract period. The role operates from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with an hour lunch break from 12 PM to 1 PM. The phlebotomist will work alongside three other phlebotomists, handling approximately 70-75 patients per day, including drug screens with cross-training. The position requires performing 20-25 sticks per day using straight and butterfly needles.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Conyers, GA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
