Job Title: Specimen Processor I
Job Description
The primary role of a Specimen Processor is to perform specimen accessioning, sample sorting, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment following established standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
+ Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing to ensure accurate results.
+ Open specimens and pour them into secondary containers for analysis and testing.
+ Verify that patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted.
+ Enter patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.
+ Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
+ Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas.
+ Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities when required.
+ Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples.
+ Resolve and document any problem specimens.
+ Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste responsibly.
+ Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
+ Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.
Essential Skills
+ High School Diploma or equivalent.
+ Proficient computer and typing skills.
+ Comfortable handling human biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
+ Ability to lift up to 30lbs and work in protective equipment.
+ Strong eye-hand coordination to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
+ Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
+ High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem-solve.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ 0-2 years of work experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous medical or production experience is preferred.
+ Standardized color vision test must be administered to evaluate if potential accommodation is needed for the worker.
+ Strong organizational skills.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office.
+ Strong data entry experience is required.
Work Environment
The position is for the 2nd shift, running from 6 PM to 2:30 AM, Monday to Friday, with rotating Saturday shifts every other week. A 10% shift differential is offered for the 2nd shift. Employees are given a 30-minute lunch/dinner break, and there is a possibility of required overtime. The role involves working in a high-volume, fast-paced lab environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove Village, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
