Essential Job Functions
Plans, assigns, supervises, reviews, and inspects the work of employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, testing, configuration, and installation of fixed, mobile, and portable radio communications and related equipment.
Monitors and participates in requisitions and orders for parts and supplies.
Coordinates with other units within the Department to plan and complete projects (e.g., installing and updating mobile radio equipment).
Shares technical knowledge and expertise with other Departmental personnel.
Confers and consults with Department members and vendor, to provide instructions on work techniques, equipment builds, equipment operations, repairs, maintenance, technological developments, etc.
Keeps shop and work records, and creates productivity reports.
Ensures compliance with safety regulations and safe work practices.
Plans and schedules equipment inspection and preventive maintenance.
Writes employees performance evaluations.
Performs the work of an Electronics Communications Technician on an as-needed basis.
Drives vehicles as part of job-related testing, reviews, and inspections.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY
Three years of journey-level experience* in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio communications transmitting and receiving equipment.
LICENSES
A valid General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). **
A valid California Class C Driver License*** is required to perform job-related essential functions.Candidates offered these positions would be required to show proof of a valid California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.
Out-of-state applicants must have a valid license from the state in which they reside at the time of filing.Out-of-State applicants will be required to obtain a California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.

PHYSICAL CLASS

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
*Journey-level experienceis defined as performing the full range and diversity of work independently and reliably in radio communications, equipment maintenance, repair, and installation.
**In order to qualify, applicants MUST submit a copy of their valid General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing . Please submit documentation to [email protected] and indicate your name, the exam title and the exam number. Failure to provide the required documentation will result in application rejection.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be implemented as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

APPLICANTS MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.
TESTING ACCOMMODATION

ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION
The names of applicants receiving a passing grade in the examination will be place on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months from the date of promulgation.
The list of successful applicants created from this exam will be used to fill vacancies within the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department , Technology and Support Division, Communications & Fleet Management Bureau.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH.
