    About the Role:

    Callen-Lorde Community Health Center is seeking a collaborative, mission-driven Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) to serve as a senior clinical and operational leader across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the ACMO provides enterprise-wide oversight of clinical operations, quality, provider performance, and regulatory compliance.

     

    In addition to system-level responsibilities, the ACMO serves as the site medical leader for Callen-Lorde’s flagship Chelsea location, with direct accountability for clinical operations, provider leadership, quality outcomes, and day-to-day medical oversight at the site. In this capacity, the ACMO partners closely with site leadership, clinical directors, and administrative operations to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care, operational excellence, and alignment with organizational strategy.

     

    This role bridges executive leadership and frontline clinical practice, maintaining a limited clinical panel while representing the CMO internally and externally as needed.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Executive & Clinical Leadership

    + Serve as a senior clinical leader supporting the CMO in overseeing medical operations across the organization.

    + Represent the CMO internally and externally in their absence.

    + Provide leadership, supervision, and professional development for Clinical Directors, Associate Directors of Medicine, and medical providers.

    + Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and patient-centered care.

    Clinical Operations & Access

    + Oversee daily clinical operations including provider scheduling, patient flow, coverage planning, and productivity.

    + Partner with administrative operations and site leadership to optimize workflows and staffing models.

    + Monitor performance metrics related to access, efficiency, quality, and provider productivity.

    + Provide clinical coverage and limited patient care, maintaining a panel on a part-time basis.

    + Participate in after-hours and on-call coverage on a rotating basis as required.

    Quality Improvement & Compliance

    + Lead and support Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives, including audits, peer chart reviews, and corrective action planning.

    + Ensure compliance with Article 28, HRSA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

    + Set, monitor, and evaluate clinical quality indicators and outcomes.

    Provider Development & Training

    + Oversee recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of medical providers.

    + Conduct 90-day evaluations and provide ongoing supervision and mentorship.

    + Facilitate departmental meetings, provider education sessions, and professional development initiatives.

    Strategy, Collaboration & External Partnerships

    + Partner with executive leadership on staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation aligned with organizational strategy.

    + Collaborate with Patient Experience, Referral Management, and hospital partners to support care coordination, transfers, and admissions.

    + Represent Callen-Lorde at professional conferences, trainings, and community events.

     

    Work Schedule: Callen-Lorde's main site in Chelsea is open Monday through Saturday. This is a full-time exempt position with regular business hours. Occasional evenings and on-call coverage are required.

    Qualifications

    + Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.

    + Valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in New York State.

    + Board Certified or Board Eligible in Primary Care or a related specialty.

    + Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience and 3–5 years in a leadership or administrative role.

    + Demonstrated experience in clinical operations, quality improvement, and workflow optimization.

    + Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and use of electronic health records (EHR).
