    PURPOSE

    The Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance is responsible for the installation, alteration, in addition, repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.

     

    + Repairs, rebuilds or overhauls all types of production and service equipment in the facility. This is a skilled position above a journeyman level in several trades. An employee in this class performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machines, buildings, and equipment.

    + Work involves primary responsibility for proficiency in several trades, with working conditions and the degree of supervision exercised differing according to the location and nature of assignments.

    + The employee exercises technical independence in determining work methods and procedures resolution and receives assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams.

    + Review of work is received from administrative superiors through inspections and discussions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Analyzes complex electrical, mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment, plans for, and takes corrective action as directed.

    + Installs or designs electrical wiring systems, fixtures and transformers.

    + Completes installation, troubleshoots and repairs systems by using the diagnosis program based on circuit board levels.

    + Performs preventive electrical maintenance on systems.

    + Responsible for monitoring all components of plants electrical distribution and controls.

    + Install and repair electrical heating units.

    + Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits. Make necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.

    + When equipment not scheduled for manufacturing, changes over equipment to upgrade or performs scheduled maintenance.

    + Tests equipment to check operation. Clears jams. Tries out equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended downtime.

    + Notifies Maintenance Manager or Lead Mechanic of reoccurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action recommended or of supplies needed to complete the project.

    + Uses full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform inspection before start of a job.

    + Starts up and shuts down equipment in line with company safety procedures for equipment under power and OSHA guidelines.

    + Monitors all equipment in line with preventative maintenance. Reads and interprets detailed electrical, Mechanical and Hydraulic blueprints to set up and tests production equipment under power, testing for electrical and mechanical difficulties tracing to their sources and correcting problems.

    + Instructs and directs any maintenance trainees assigned. Will troubleshoot and program PLC based equipment. Job assignments will be determined by level of knowledge and ability.

    + Ability to work overtime, weekends, on call and shutdown.

    + Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Amcor, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations.

    OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS

    Knowledgeable concerning complex electrical and mechanical principles. Must have considerable knowledge of the practice, methods, tools, equipment and materials of the electrical trade. Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and the necessary safety precautions. Knowledge of applicable electrical codes. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical trade. Able to mentally visualize and comprehend all aspects of a manufacturing equipment or tooling problems, understand the inter-relationships of factors affecting a given situation and to be attentive to detail. Capable of efficiently integrating existing methods with innovations to economically solve production problems in a timely manner. Has initiative and ability to work effectively with little direction. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management staff. Self-motivated with good problem-solving skills.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    + High School Diploma or equivalent and must have prior experience in manufacturing maintenance. Must have four years’ experience in the industrial electrical trade. Previous knowledge of machinery used in polyethylene film manufacturing a plus. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read and interpret sketches, diagrams and detailed electric, mechanic and hydraulic blueprints.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English. Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Must have very good mathematical skills with abilities to use electrical measuring and gauging tools.

    SAFETY

    Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Amcor’s guidelines including wearing PPE in designated areas. Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employee’s safety, and adherence to policies and maintains compliance with OSHA and company housekeeping rules.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must be able to keep up with moderate to high-speed production machines (including but not limited to winders, bag machines, printing presses, extruders, blenders and pumps). Will work with high temperature equipment and with moving equipment of varying speeds. Manual dexterity required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue. The employee continuously uses their arms, hands and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, grip and squeeze. The employee routinely bends, kneels, squats, pulls and drags, climbs/descends stairs into/from the tower areas 50 to 65 feet in the air. The employee at times may climb vertical OSHA protected ladder 60 feet in the air outside on silo. The employee may lift up to 65 pounds at times and stands approximately 8 hours (for an 8-hour shift; 12 hrs. for a 12-hr. shift) and routinely walks to and from the production area consulting with maintenance and production staff and working where needed. The employees routinely step-up 1½ feet and pulls themselves into the seat of a forklift. High mental and visual effort required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts and live electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment. The employee is continuously exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the Spring and Summer and cold temperatures during the Winter.
