Thisisnotabaseposition,andtheFTEmustberequestedeachbiennium. *Specific Job Information:* ThistechnicianwillworkwithboththeNongameWildlifeProgramandtheWildlifeHealthLabtoimplement: **1)**Montana's Pd/White-noseSyndrome(WNS)Surveillanceeffortsand2) NorthAmericanBatMonitoring Program(NABat;i.e., acousticmonitoringofbatsacrossthestate).Thispositionwillbepartofa 3-member crew and supervisedbyaleadbattech.The crew will carryassistwithWNS surveillanceinhibernacula,at summerroostsites,orviamist-nettingat severalsitesacrossthe stateofMontana(April -June).Thisposition willalsohelpimplementMontana'sbatacousticmonitoringprogramfollowingNABatprotocol(June -July) andmayassistingwithimplementingmanagementactionsin August.Effortsrequirethe positionto workwith dozensofFWP andpartneragencystaff as wellasprivatelandownersto obtainaccessto conduct/Pd/////WNS/surveillance and acoustic monitoring. /Pd/////WNS/surveillanceincludes thecapture,handling, identification,and sampling (e.g.swabbing of bats) of batsacrossthestate.Othersurveillance work includes collecting guanoand soil samplesinhibernacula andat springroostingsites.Somesurveillance workwilloccurinhibernacula-previousexperience working incaves isideal butnot required. Although rabies vaccinationsare notarequirement forapplication,technicians must bewilling to receive rabies vaccinations,conduct regular titerchecks,and receive boosters,asneeded. The acousticmonitoringfollowsNABatprotocolsandinvolvesthe deploymentof acousticdetectorsatl00 sitesacross.Othertasksincludeassistingwithotherprojectmistnettingeffortsasneeded,maintainingsupplyandequipmentinventories,dataentry,maintainingdatabaseofsamplingsitesandresults,andshippingsamples to testing laboratories. Physical demands include working long hours,occasionally atnight; hiking inrugged terrainwithheavy equipment, sometimes inbear country; working and camping ininclement weather andcold and hot temperatures;andpotentiallycaving.Theabilitytoworkwithoutdirectsupervisioninpotentiallyhazardous conditionsisexpected.Thetechnicianmusthavetheabilityandfeelcomfortabledrivinga4x4vehicleinall weather androadconditions, changingatire,and hiking orcamping alone orinateam,andfollowingdaily check-in procedures._Candidates must be____comfortable working in____remote parts____of____the____state,_oftensolo. *Minimum Qualifications:* Twoseasons offield experience, excellent organizationalskills;strong written andoral communication skills; ability toworkeffectively inateam orsolosetting, withlittleto nosupervision; experiencecapturing batsorbirdsinmistnets;experiencehandlingandidentifyingbats,orothersmallanimals; andability tomakesafedecisions whileconductingfieldwork.Experience withdataentry andmanagementpreferred. **Title:** *Wildlife Technician 3* **Location:** *Helena* **Requisition ID:** *25143094* **Other Locations:** *Bozeman*
