Thisisnotabaseposition,andtheFTEmustberequestedeachbiennium. *Specific Job Information:* ThistechnicianwillworkwithboththeNongameWildlifeProgramandtheWildlifeHealthLabtoimplement: **1)**Montana's Pd/White-noseSyndrome(WNS)Surveillanceeffortsand2) NorthAmericanBatMonitoring Program(NABat;i.e., acousticmonitoringofbatsacrossthestate).Thispositionwillbepartofa 3-member crew and supervisedbyaleadbattech.The crew will carryassistwithWNS surveillanceinhibernacula,at summerroostsites,orviamist-nettingat severalsitesacrossthe stateofMontana(April -June).Thisposition willalsohelpimplementMontana'sbatacousticmonitoringprogramfollowingNABatprotocol(June -July) andmayassistingwithimplementingmanagementactionsin August.Effortsrequirethe positionto workwith dozensofFWP andpartneragencystaff as wellasprivatelandownersto obtainaccessto conduct/Pd/////WNS/surveillance and acoustic monitoring. /Pd/////WNS/surveillanceincludes thecapture,handling, identification,and sampling (e.g.swabbing of bats) of batsacrossthestate.Othersurveillance work includes collecting guanoand soil samplesinhibernacula andat springroostingsites.Somesurveillance workwilloccurinhibernacula-previousexperience working incaves isideal butnot required. Although rabies vaccinationsare notarequirement forapplication,technicians must bewilling to receive rabies vaccinations,conduct regular titerchecks,and receive boosters,asneeded. The acousticmonitoringfollowsNABatprotocolsandinvolvesthe deploymentof acousticdetectorsatl00 sitesacross.Othertasksincludeassistingwithotherprojectmistnettingeffortsasneeded,maintainingsupplyandequipmentinventories,dataentry,maintainingdatabaseofsamplingsitesandresults,andshippingsamples to testing laboratories.
