    Job Description Summary

    The Test Apprenticeship Program combines both academic studies and on-the-job training to develop the fundamentals required to become a skilled Test Operator. An operator will test Heavy Duty Gas Turbines at the test facility and participate in all aspects of maintenance, operation, and testing at the facility.

     

    Applicants must hold an Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics or similar degree or be currently enrolled in a local community college pursuing the degree.

    Job Description

    Must work full time while attending technical school and successfully pass academic requirements or have previously passed required program academics. Tuition and fees will be paid by any available grants, scholarship funding and GE (via tuition reimbursement benefits). Primary responsibility of the apprentice will be to learn all thediverse areas ofTest. By the end of the program, the employee will be able to:

    Test Heavy Duty Gas Turbines

    + The Test facilityis responsible forrunning new-make Heavy Duty Gas Turbines produced in Greenville,SC. This includes installation in dedicated test cells,monitoringof the process systems during operation, and verifying overall unit performance and quality to stringent standards.

    + Perform simple to complex troubleshooting and repairon a variety of heavy-duty gas turbine equipment and balance of plant equipment, both electrical and mechanicalsystems.

    + Conductgas turbinetest operations as scheduled, and assure test planning, test methods, qualityproceduresand safety procedures are followed.

    + Identify, report andcorrect defects and malfunctions onheavy-duty gasturbines and facilityequipment.

    + Provide technical instruction and workto contract support staff.

    + Perform and/orassistin laseralignmentof high-speed shafts.

    General Operations

    + Perform scheduled preventative maintenance of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.

    + Demonstrate ownership andparticipatewith the teamsin Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Lean efforts.

    + Perform gage calibration on instruments.

    + Demonstrate ability to work independently and performas part of a team.

    + Learn basic machineand systemoperation for a variety ofequipmenttoassistin troubleshooting.

    + Accuratelyutilizevarioustypesof precision measuring and test equipment associated with the evaluation of function and repair toheavy-duty gas turbinesand facility equipment.

    + Operate various material-moving equipment (e.g., forklifts, straddle-hoistand jib/gantry cranes).

    + Safely and effectivelyutilizevarious hand tools,shop equipment, fixtures,and tooling.

    + Performanyother assigned duties asrequired.

    Eligibility / Qualifications:

    + Applicants must hold an Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, Computer Technology, ITSystemsor similar Degree or be currently enrolled in a local community college pursuing the degree.

    + Successfully pass an extensive interview process.

    + Successfully pass an Accredited Community College Entrance Exam.

    + Successfully pass all mechanical/electrical/computeraptitude assessments.

    + Ability to work overtime asrequired, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + Ability to work occasional weekend shifts asrequired, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + Ability and willingness to work any shift: 1st Shift (6:45 AM-2:45 PM) 2nd shift (2:45-10:45 PM) or 3rd shift (10:45 PM-6:45 AM).

    + Internal applicants must meet time on current job requirements, no active disciplinary action (within last 12 months) andmust have“Meets Expectations” or better rating on latest appraisal.

    Physical requirements:

    + Ability to perform work while standing a minimum of 7 hours per day, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + Ability to carry 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + Ability to conduct repetitive motion tasks daily, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    + Ability to climb stairs/ladders, with or without reasonable accommodation.
