RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY:
• Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, fills medication orders, prepares IVs and performs technical and clerical duties in Pharmacy.
• All duties and activities performed in accordance with established The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) system-wide, Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital (QNHCH) specific, and/or department specific policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
• All duties and activities are performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Finger dexterity. Seeing. Hearing. Speaking.
B. MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:
• Infrequent: N/A
• Occasional: Lift floor to waist between 36-50 lbs. Lift waist to shoulder between 36-50 lbs. Lift waist to overhead between 6-10 lbs. Carry between 36-50 lbs. Push and Pull between 36-50 lbs.
• Frequent: N/A
• Constant: N/A
C. NON-MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:
• Infrequent: N/A
• Occasional: Sit. Kneel. Twist. Crawl. Squat.
• Frequent: Stoop/Bend. Climb: Stairs/Ladder. Reach: shoulder level. Reach: above head. Gripping.
• Constant: Stand. Walk.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.
• Subjected to noise/vibration from air handling systems, printers, telephones, etc.
• Exposure to body fluids, chemicals, some contact with patients with communicable diseases.
• May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment including chemotherapy.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Current Pharmacy Technician certification preferred.
C. EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum six (6) months experience as a pharmacy technician.
• Experience to demonstrate:
o Knowledge of sterile compounding and pharmaceutical packaging.
o Ability to perform pharmacy calculations involving ratio/proportion, IV flow rate calculations, and dosage calculations including daily doses, and days’ supply calculations. Must be able to mathematically convert fractions, decimals, percentages and mixed numbers.
o Ability to operate a calculator.
o Ability to answer telephone and inquiries.
o Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other software highly desirable.
