Position Summary:

Kemper is a publicly traded, multi-billion-dollar insurance and financial services company, and we are seeking a talented and motivated accounting professional to join our SEC & Financial Reporting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C, Life) that has exposure to financial reporting under SEC, GAAP, Statutory, and ERISA accounting frameworks. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.

Position Responsibilities:

+ Lead the SEC financial reporting process including the timely and accurate filing of Forms 10-Q/K, 8-K and other SEC documents

+ Schedule and facilitate meetings with senior leadership to discuss business trends and draft management discussion and analysis in advance of quarterly reporting

+ Preparation and facilitation of quarterly end-to-end reporting workflow

+ Manage external audit review comments on Forms 10-Q/K, 8-K and other SEC documents

+ Responsible for ongoing management of Workiva for use of financial reporting, including iXBRL

+ Coordinate with Accounting Policy to ensure compliance with SEC disclosure requirements and accounting guidance

+ Manage team of two accountants

Position Qualifications:

+ 7-10 years of experience in public accounting and/or SEC reporting for a large public company

+ BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance

+ CPA required

+ Familiarity with US GAAP and SEC filing requirements

+ Experience navigating a large ERP environment

+ Experience in Workday Financial Management and Workiva a plus

+ Effective writing skills and strong attention to detail required

+ Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills

+ Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions

+ Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staff

+ Ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex accounting issues

+ The selected candidate will work a hybrid work schedule which will require weekly reporting to our Chicago, IL office.
