Summary This position is located at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Responsibilities This position serves as the Engineering Equipment Operator Leader for the Interment Operations at the Willamette National Cemetery. The incumbent has Leader responsibility for cemetery interment operations. Motivates and promotes the teamwork of those they lead to perform as an effective working unit. Incumbent may be temporarily assigned as acting Interment Foreman during the Interment Foreman's absence and will perform other duties as assigned. The work leader will demonstrate and employ proper work methods or procedures to the crew being led. Advises other employees to follow the Supervisor's instructions and meet deadlines. Checks work that is in progress and again when it is completed to ensure compliance with Supervisor's instructions on sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. Keeps Supervisor informed on the progress of work or any delays encountered. Obtains additional guidance or decisions from the Supervisor when problems or unfamiliar situations are encountered during the work. Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to operate equipment such as graders, tractors with bulldozer or angledozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments. Evidence of this potential can be shown through work, training, or education that establishes proficiency in operating this type of equipment. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: Physical demands on the incumbent consist of walking, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, pushing, pulling, tugging, and climbing. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Must be able to walk in all types of terrain and soil conditions. Working Conditions: Work is typically performed outside in all type of inclement weather to include sun, wind, rain, cold, or snow and under periodic muddy conditions. The incumbent may be subjected to significant exposure to loud noises, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust while operating machinery. The position requires walking and standing including significant periods of outdoor duty to perform tasks such as attending services and inspecting sections of the cemetery including sections which are active interment areas or sections under construction. Assists with moving of caskets placed on wheeled biers in and out of committal shelters. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
