The Facilities Control Engineer works closely with Facilities Operations, Laboratory Operations, and Quality Assurance to ensure controlled environments meet all regulatory, safety, and performance requirements.

    Job Responsibilities

+ Serve as the primary technical owner of the Building Management System (BMS), including configuration, monitoring, alarms, calibration coordination, and system performance management.

+ Ensure environmental conditions meet required specifications across all spaces, including temperature, humidity, pressure differentials, and air change effectiveness for critical laboratory areas, as well as appropriate environmental conditions for general employee areas.

+ Develop, review, and update functional specifications, control logic, and system narratives for BMS controlled assets.

+ Support validation, qualification, and commissioning of BMS components and controlled spaces, including URS development, IQ/OQ/PQ activities, and periodic room mapping.

+ Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve facility control system issues, alarms, and environmental deviations with urgency and scientific impact in mind.

+ Execute change control activities related to BMS hardware, software, control sequences, and monitored parameters in compliance with Quality and Engineering procedures.

+ Partner with Environmental Monitoring (EM) teams to integrate validated monitoring systems with the BMS and support both validated and non-validated data streams.

+ Partner with IT to ensure robust system security and to support scalable growth of the building management systems.

+ Plan and manage preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and lifecycle improvements for building control systems, including sensors, actuators, and all related automation infrastructure.

+ Maintain documentation including system drawings, panel layouts, configuration backups, alarm setpoints, calibration records, and controlled environment qualification reports.

+ Support audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments by providing system data, environmental evidence, and technical expertise.

+ Conduct meetings and presentations with clarity and confidence, ensuring effective communication of information to diverse audiences.

    Required Qualifications

+ Minimum 5 years of direct experience in Building Management Systems, industrial controls, automation engineering, or facilities engineering in a regulated life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, or clinical laboratory environment.

+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Facilities Technology, or related field.

+ Minimum 7 years relevant industry experience.

+ Experience maintaining and troubleshooting BMS systems such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or equivalent platforms.

+ Experience with basic PLC logic, BACnet, Modbus, or related communication protocols.

+ Demonstrated understanding of HVAC fundamentals, environmental control strategies, and GxP principles.

+ Experience with validated and non-validated BMS architecture supporting GxP and non-GxP systems simultaneously.

+ Strong understanding of alarm management, trend analysis, and system data interpretation.

    + Strong understanding of ISO-15189

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Master’s Degree

    + Professional Engineer license (PE)

+ Experience with room mapping, commissioning, and qualification activities for controlled spaces.

+ Certifications such as Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), Certified Automation Professional (CAP), or relevant manufacturer certifications in BMS platforms.
