Join Mizuho as an Observability Engineering Lead!
We are seeking a hands-on and passionate engineering professional to join our diverse and growing Infrastructure Engineering and Cloud Enablement organization as an Observability Engineering Lead. The role is involved in design and implementation activities that result in new or improved observability and monitoring related capabilities. It brings skills and expertise to such areas as observability architecture, automating observability delivery and management tasks, observability provisioning and configuration management, and other aspects involved in building observability solutions.
Successful outcomes are underpinned by the ideal candidate’s solid understanding of infrastructure, networking and applications in the on-premises, cloud and hybrid world. The nature of the work involved means that the engineer will directly engage with individual teams across the organization and will also work on observability capabilities that span multiple teams and projects. The ability to promote and prove the value of observability is also a key function of this role.
What You’ll Do
+ Provide expert knowledge on observability approaches, standards and platforms, to ensure our organization achieves its goals and roadmap for improving our observability maturity. This involves translating organizational strategy and architecture into efficient, resilient, and secure technical implementations.
+ Provide guidance and set standards on telemetry lifecycle management activities such as managing the retention and granularity of telemetry being collected and stored according to different use cases.
+ Design, build, and improve existing observability solutions. This includes developing observability strategies such as OpenTelemetry, eBPF, and use of monitoring-as-code (MaC) with a shift-left mindset in collaboration with platform engineering teams.
+ Support application and enterprise architects in designing reusable observability artifacts and working on new solutions, including analyzing observability requirements and supporting technical architecture activities.
+ Work closely with network, application, infrastructure, data, and security specialists to design, implement and ensure observability activities meet requirements and align with best practices in these areas.
What We’re Looking For
+ 8 or more years of related experience as an Observability Engineer or similar role in Infrastructure Engineering, Operations or SRE environments.
+ Observability implementation or migration project experience (greenfield, tool consolidation…).
+ Experience with popular observability tools and platforms (Prometheus, Telegraf, Grafana stack, ELK, Azure Monitor…)
+ Experience with popular observability protocols, formats, and standards (OpenTelemetry, eBPF, Prometheus…)
+ Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation approaches (Ansible, Python, Terraform…) and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows)
+ Exposure to various monitoring platforms is preferred (SolarWinds, OpsRamp, ExtraHop…)
+ Exposure to CSPs (Azure), virtualization (VMWare), and containerization technologies (K8s, OpenShift) is preferred.
+ Strong architectural skills and an ability to design scalable, reusable solutions.
+ Proactive and detail-oriented, strong analytical skills, and the ability to use a data-driven approach.
+ Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with an ability to collaborate with internal customers, including infra, app, data, and security teams, to design, implement, and operationalize observability capabilities.
The expected base salary ranges from $160k-$190k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
