AIP is looking for an Armed Detention Officer to work in Brownsville, TX. The Armed Detention Officer will provide Armed Security at multiple posts at the Port Isabel Detention Center. Responsibilities
+ Ensure all visitors to PIDC are properly identified and screened for contraband.
+ Maintain control of all visitors within the waiting area.
+ Answer any questions relating to facility, visitation and court policies.
+ Ensure all visitors log in to the appropriate logbooks.
+ Ensure all required information is properly documented by visitors in all logbooks.
+ Enforce dress code in Lobby.
+ PIDC ICE staff and support personnel must register their presence on-site upon entrance to the facility for safety and accountability.
+ Ensure that the Notification to Visitor form is filled out completely to include the signature of witnessing officer.
+ Be courteous and professional when dealing with staff and visitors.
+ Use proper phone etiquette.
+ Remain alert at all times to deter the introduction of contraband.
+ Conduct key inventory of the weapons locker and document the results.
+ All bags and packages entering the secured area will be thoroughly searched for contraband. All Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) are exempt.
+ All personnel entering the secured area will pass through the metal detector or be scanned by the handheld device. All Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) are exempt.
+ Provide safety and security for the Facility by controlling access through the Main Gate, denying passage to any unauthorized person(s) or vehicle(s).
+ Responsible for any contractor / construction work crew traffic that arrives at the main gate outside of the normal operating hours.
+ Ensure that you receive an updated authorize access contractor/construction worker list on a weekly basis
+ The outside gate will be secured from the hours of 2:00am to 6:00am.
+ Maintain a constant awareness for suspicious activities and/or breeches of security.
+ Look for contraband and anything out of the ordinary.
+ Be alert for any unusual or emergency situations, notify the supervisor immediately, and take appropriate actions as needed. Make a notation in the logbook.
+ Complete a Fire\Security Inspection of your area and document the results.
+ Conduct inspections of the Facility’s outer perimeter, alternating your routine so as not to establish a pattern. Patrols must never become regular and routine.
+ Conduct frequent patrols of outer perimeter and entire facility
+ Rovers will inspect the property fence line for deficiencies.
+ Respond to Control Center’s notification of fence alarms to verify the security of the zone, utilizing the zone reference card located in the roving vehicle.
+ Make sporadic stops during outdoor recreation hours to observe detainee activity.
+ Respond to requests for assistance from main gate officers and/or Lobby Officers.
+ Check on Main Gate and Lobby Officers at least every hour.
+ Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ 21 years of age.
+ U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident who has lived in US for 3 of past 5 years.
+ State of Texas Level III Guard Permit.
+ Able to qualify with 9mm caliber pistol.
+ Competency with semi-automatic pistol, demonstrate safe weapon handling skills.
+ Possess ability to great and deal tactfully with the general public.
+ Capable of understanding and applying written and verbal orders, rules and regulations.
+ Good judgment, courage, alertness, even temperament.
+ Ability to maintain poise and self-control during situations which involve mental stress.
+ Clear criminal history; no felonies or Class A misdemeanors.
+ Meet physical/health requirements for duties.
+ High School Graduate or GED
+ Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
+ Computer skills including proficiency in various Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
+ Organizational skills commensurate with position.
Physical Demands:
+ May be required to bend and stoop frequently and occasionally kneel or crouch.
+ Often climbs stairs and works with arms above the shoulder.
+ May often be required to move heavy equipment.
+ Required to lift 50 lbs. or less frequently and often lifts 50-65 lbs.
+ May often be required to grip, squeeze and repetitively use fine hand movements.
Work Environment:
+ Work areas will include all areas of the secured facility and often works alone.
+ Works in a correctional setting requiring attentiveness and officer safety.
+ Works where slips & trips may occur frequently and often exposed to sharp objects.
+ Exposure to blood borne pathogens.
+ Exposure to south Texas weather in a moist or dry environment with exposure to sun extreme heat, cold and rain; some noise and chemicals.
+ Overall demands of this position are moderate.
