Mortgage Underwriter Level 1 – Contract (Vienna, VA)

Pay Range: 27.00+

About the Role

We’re looking for a Mortgage Underwriter to review and approve mortgage loans, including conventional, FHA, VA, jumbo, and home equity. You’ll analyze credit, review appraisals, and make decisions to ensure compliance with guidelines and minimize risk.

Minimum Qualifications

+ Extensive Mortgage Processing Experience (e.g., Processor, Closer, Loan Officer)

+ Knowledge of underwriting processes and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

+ Delegated Credit Authority (typically $1–$2M)

+ VA SAR/LAPP and/or FHA DE certifications

+ Experience with conventional and VA loans, credit analysis, and tax return review

Key Responsibilities

+ Review loan documents and verify accuracy

+ Analyze borrower creditworthiness (DTI, LTV)

+ Evaluate appraisals and ensure collateral meets guidelines

+ Approve or decline loans within authority

+ Collaborate with loan officers and processors

+ Maintain compliance with federal regulations

Skills Needed

+ Strong underwriting and financial analysis skills

+ Familiarity with FHA tools and mortgage systems

+ Excellent communication and judgment

This is a Contract position based out of Vienna, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
