    All appointments, with the exception of Department of subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on NYCT payroll.

    Compensation

     

    Transit Railcar Technology Specialist Intern (Rep.) (TA): $68,709.00

    Responsibilities

    + Technical Review: Assist in the evaluation of vendor-submitted materials such as Parts Catalog, components, and documentation for compliance with NYCT, AWS, ASTM, and other applicable standards.

    + Identify and resolve issues related to parts and contractual deliveries, including conducting audits to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.

    + Commodity Management: Support the classification and maintenance of commodity records in the Material Standards database, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

    + Drawing and Specification Analysis: Review engineering drawings, parts catalogs, and technical data to verify dimensional material, and manufacturing requirements are clearly defined for consistent production.

    + PPEC & FAI Coordination: Participate in the Preliminary Product Evaluation Criteria (PPEC) process by reviewing submissions, tracking approvals, and coordinating First Article Inspections (FAI) or Engineering Tests (ETC) as required.

    + Catalog Development: Prepare and update part catalog information, including full material descriptions, manufacturer data, and usage within specific car classes or systems.

    + Cross-Functional Communication: Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance teams to resolve material or specification discrepancies.

    + Documentation & Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of reviews, decisions, and correspondence to ensure full traceability of material standardization decisions.

    + Engineering Support: Contribute to the development, review, and maintenance of engineering standards, SMS Workscopes, Bills of Materials, and overhaul manuals.

    + Rotational Assignments: Support various groups within the Maintenance Support Department as needed, contributing to engineering and material-related initiatives and gaining exposure to multiple technical disciplines.

    + Field Activities: Participate in field visits, inspections, and teardowns to collect technical data, verify part configurations, and support material evaluations.

    Education and Experience

    A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical, civil, transportation, transportation, aerospace or computer engineering, electrical/electronic technology, computer science, cyber security, or related degree.

    Desired Skills:

    + Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

    + Ability to apply basic engineering principles.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office and in using various measurement tools & techniques.

    + Strong problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to read technical drawings and documentation.

    Selection Method:

    Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

     

    All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
