DevOps Engineer III

GCI's DevOps Engineer III will be responsible for the Development Operations (DevOps) function of the organization, collaborating with engineers and cross-functional teams to develop, deploy, and maintain the organization’s software and systems. Streamline the software development lifecycle through automation, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), and effective infrastructure management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS:
Infrastructure & Cloud Management
+ Design, implement, and support large-scale infrastructure across multiple cloud platforms.
+ Develop reliable, resilient infrastructure using scalable and repeatable processes.
Automation & CI/CD
+ Automate and streamline operations and workflows to enable faster, more reliable application releases.
+ Implement system automation and continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) methodologies to support consistent deployment practices.
Deployment & Monitoring
+ Build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring, and testing in stable, scalable production environments.
+ Improve deployment frequency, reduce lead time for fixes, and accelerate recovery in the event of release failures.
+ Ability to take ownership and accountability for problem resolution, engaging other teams as needed to drive solutions.
+ Ability to manage priorities and tasks independently, demonstrating strong self-direction and reliability.
+ Ability to proactively seek opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Addendum: Active Directory / Domain Controller (AD/DC)
Additional Job Requirements:
Responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of the organization’s Active Directory (AD) and domain controller infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of directory services that underpin enterprise-wide identity and access management.
The engineer will be engaged in managing both on-premises and hybrid environments, contributing to group policy administration, authentication systems, AD-integrated applications, and supporting ongoing modernization efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
+ Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable Windows-based domain controllers across multi-site and hybrid environments.
+ Administer Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects (GPOs), Organizational Units (OUs), domain trusts, user and computer accounts, and AD-integrated applications.
+ Monitor and optimize AD performance, replication, availability, and health; implement and test backup and disaster recovery procedures.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to authentication, authorization, AD schema, DNS, and DHCP integration.
+ Lead or support AD migrations, version upgrades, forest/domain consolidation, and other modernization initiatives.
+ Collaborate closely with Information Security to implement domain security policies, enforce compliance standards, and maintain robust access controls.
+ Integrate AD with enterprise platforms such as Azure AD, Microsoft 365, Exchange, and telecom systems.
+ Support identity federation technologies, single sign-on (SSO), and multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions.
+ Maintain detailed documentation, including configuration baselines, operational runbooks, and architectural diagrams.
+ Partner with cross-functional teams to support enterprise infrastructure, cloud adoption strategies, and security initiatives.

+ Windows Server Administration- Strong knowledge of Windows Server roles, DNS, DHCP, and domain controller configuration.
+ Identity & Access Management (IAM)- Understanding of user provisioning, role-based access control (RBAC), and authentication protocols (Kerberos, NTLM, SAML, OAuth).
+ Security & Compliance Awareness- Familiarity with hardening best practices, audit policies, and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, HIPAA, SOX).
+ Cloud Integration Experience- Working knowledge of hybrid identity models, Azure Entra ID, ADFS, and cloud synchronization tools.
Additional Qualifications:
+ Extensive, hands-on experience in Active Directory administration within large, complex enterprise environments.
+ Proficient in Windows Server platforms (2016, 2019, 2022), including core services such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, and Kerberos.
+ Demonstrated expertise in Azure Entra ID, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), and hybrid identity solutions.
+ Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell for task automation, reporting, and system management.
+ Solid understanding of Active Directory architecture, including domain controllers, replication, and schema design.
+ Knowledge of identity lifecycle management, privileged access management (PAM), and role-based access control (RBAC) models.
+ Experience with endpoint and device management tools such as Microsoft SCCM, Intune, or similar solutions.
+ Familiarity with security best practices, access control frameworks, and compliance-driven environments.
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
+ Prior experience in the telecommunications industry, with a strong understanding of ITIL frameworks and change management processes.
+ Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate, Azure Administrator, or MCSE/MCSA.
+ Experience with cloud-based identity solutions, including Azure Entra ID and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).

This is an advanced level position within the discipline demonstrating comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in all areas of responsibility. Performs complex tasks and job duties, receiving minimal to no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments. Works under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. Supports higher level staff in implementing more complex projects.

+ Design, implement, and support large-scale infrastructure across multiple cloud platforms.

+ Participate in design of disaster recovery plans and back up procedures.
+ Provide recommendations for solutions and design.
+ Perform research on best practice for emerging tools and cloud technologies.
Automation & CI/CD
+ Automate and streamline operations and workflows to enable faster, more reliable application releases.
+ Implement system automation and continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) methodologies to support consistent deployment practices.
+ Establishing requirements and automation for routine maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis
+ High School diploma or equivalent.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. *
+ Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in a Telecommunications, Computer Sciences/IT field, or related background. *
Preferred:
+ Telecommunications experience.
+ Relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:
+ This position may require access to reliable transportation for occasional travel between retail store locations, offices, worksites, or other locations as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Work is primarily sedentary, requiring daily routine computer usage.
+ Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office/home office setting, and operate standard office equipment.
