Cyber Security Internship

The learning experiences acquired while working side by side cybersecurity professionals offers a well-balanced introduction into our industry and to our business.
A Cybersecurity Internship offers the following learning opportunities:
+ Training and hands-on experience in enterprise cybersecurity processes, critical thinking, and monitoring / response activities
+ Exposure to program management skills (tools, follow-through, reporting, etc.) to ensure careful processes and standards are followed in program implementation
+ Opportunities according to aptitude and enthusiasm to explore further controls analysis and specialties within the cybersecurity realm
In this position, the Intern will learn the facets of the Cybersecurity Program, policies, and requirements for a wide variety of systems supporting Colorado Springs Utilities customers, operations, and service delivery. The Intern will provide input and improvement recommendations based on analysis, research, and experience.
The Intern will have the opportunity to engage with many employees throughout the organization on security practices, common mitigations, and use critical thinking skills to work through different scenarios and potential vulnerabilities.
Successful candidates can expect to perform some or all of the following responsibilities:
+ Support security tool system administration by providing input on tuning to reduce false positives and to reduce alert fatigue
+ Assisting with the identification, communication, and remediation of vulnerabilities in the operational technology environment
+ Supporting regulatory compliance efforts through the collection of cybersecurity evidence
+ Perform preliminary phishing case investigation and escalate to senior analysts as needed
+ Assist with real-time monitoring of security events and reviewing alerts in the SIEM
+ Perform documentation reviews to identify outdated information or gaps
+ Assist with internal risk management activities such as exception requests, policies, and training content
+ Conduct reviews of potential suppliers and products to inform organizational suitability
+ Review and enrich access control change requests to assist with risk identification
+ Other duties and projects as assigned
_This position requires up to 40 hours per week during the summer months and during academic breaks and up to 20 hours per week during the academic school year. The position can be flexible to support a student’s school schedule. This position may be extended due to the applicant’s availability and upcoming projects providing additional learning experience._

_*Hourly rate is dependent on year completed of academic degree, e.g., second year complete, third year complete, etc._

_PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:_
-Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or small amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
-Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
