WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The EHS Specialist will ensure the environmental, health and safety culture and expectations are adhered to at the Safe Foods (“SF”) facility by reporting, monitoring, training, coaching, and holding team members accountable. Job duties include but are not limited to:
The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist is responsible for driving EHS excellence across the Safe Foods (SF) facilities and assigned locations by ensuring that all EHS expectations are fully implemented and sustained. This role requires advanced technical knowledge, strong problem-solving abilities, and the professionalism to lead EHS initiatives with autonomy. The Specialist will uphold and reinforce the company’s safety culture through proactive reporting, monitoring, training, coaching, and holding team members accountable. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
+ **Partnership with SF Operations leadership to help drive EHS excellence among their teams.**
+ Support EHS programs throughout the organization.
+ Reinforce strategic EHS initiatives within their division.
+ Maintain open communications with SF EHS Manager, and SF leadership regarding issues related to Safety, Health, and Environmental.
+ Work closely with EHS Team on a regular basis including weekly conference calls and team meetings.
+ Ensure SF Operations comply with all EHS related requirements from external customers, governmental agencies, and established policies and procedures.
+ Ensure that all investigations are documented with an action plan and that the action plan is successfully implemented.
+ Manage and attend all OSHA, EPA, DOT or other regulatory visits pertaining to SFCI business scope as needed, including site visits, complaints, and assisting the Senior Compliance Officer with informal conferences as needed.
+ Interface with local, state, and federal agencies on all EHS related issues.
+ Implement and maintain EHS policies and procedures.
+ Create and support specific action plans to solve identified plant level issues.
+ Assist Safety Teams (Spill Team, Fire & First Response, Safety Committee, etc) and other assignments as needed.
+ Serve as a strategic partner to SF Operations leadership by providing guidance, coaching, and support to promote EHS excellence.
+ Maintain open, professional communication with the SF EHS Manager, and facility leadership.
+ Represent the EHS Department in ways that promote trust, partnership, and credibility.
+ Facilitate site safety committees using a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
+ Maintain audit readiness and collaborate with stakeholders during regulatory and customer audits.
+ Build positive, respectful relationships with local, state, and federal agencies.
+ Conduct timely and thorough incident investigations to identify contributing factors and develop improvement strategies.
+ Develop and deliver professional EHS presentations for leadership, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders.
+ Support employee learning through engaging training that encourages participation and understanding.
+ Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly performance reports and dashboards.
+ Support the development of action plans to address EHS opportunities and operational risks.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure progress is maintained and improvements are implemented effectively.
+ Assist with stormwater, wastewater, hazardous waste, universal waste, and spill response activities.
+ Conduct environmental inspections with a focus on safe practices and regulatory compliance.
+ Provide support for environmental permitting as needed.
+ Travel as needed to assist with investigations, audits, training and activities.
+ Perform inspections requiring climbing stairs or ladders, extended walking, bending, and entering varied environments.
+ Support additional EHS responsibilities as needed.
YOUR MUST HAVES:
+ Must be 18 years of age or older
+ Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field
+ 5 years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial operations
+ Strong professional communication skills
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality and sound judgment
+ Proven ability to coach employees and build strong cross-functional relationships
+ Ability to independently manage investigations, documentation, and corrective actions
WHAT WE PREFER YOU HAVE:
+ Certificate to perform fit testing
+ Certificate to train and test others on forklift certifications
+ Certified to issue safe work and confined spaces permits
+ Experience with environmental sampling, wastewater testing, or stormwater management
+ Knowledge of OSHA 1910, EPA regulations, and hazardous waste management
+ Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CHST
OUR ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the functions of this job, the team member works in a combination of a quiet office environment and a manufacturing environment where they can be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment varies between quiet and loud.
