GENERAL DUTIES
IT Assistants perform entry-level professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically IT Assistants work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar based on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving minor technology problems, monitoring activities, and maintaining documentation. They have latitude for independent initiative and judgment, under supervision.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The IT Assistant Level 1 will report to the Computer Systems Manager or his/her designee.
IT Assistant will support KBCC's day-to-day IT operations by resolving technical issues, managing devices and user accounts, and assisting in classroom technology setups. These roles ensure smooth digital access for staff, faculty, and students.
The IT Assistants will:
• Provide frontline support for computers, printers, and AV equipment.
• Troubleshoot software, logins, network, and hardware issues.
• Assist with onboarding tech needs (email accounts, access setup, network port provisioning).
• Coordinate classroom technology, including projectors and smartboards.
• Maintain IT inventory and assist in upgrades or installations.
• Track service requests and document resolutions.
• Deliver basic training to staff/students on software and platforms.
• Monitor and report potential system issues or security breaches.
• Work under the direction of the Computer Manager on larger projects.
• Ensure all user support services align with institutional IT protocols.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When a civil service list is established, the College is required to make appointment(s) from the certified list to fill all position(s) including those held by provisional and/or temporary employee(s). Non-permanent employee(s) would need to take and pass exam, and be reachable on list. Permanency is subject to time severed in position, with satisfactory service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level 1
1. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution **and** two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
2. An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university **and** one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
3. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university **and** six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
4. A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Level 2
1. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution **and** three (3) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
2. An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university **and** two (2) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
3. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university **and** eighteen (18) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
4. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field **and** one (1) year of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
Level 3
1. A High School diploma or its educational equivalent from an accredited institution **and** five (5) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
2. An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university **and** four (4) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
3. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university **and** three (3) years and six (6) months of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; **or**
4. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a computer related field **and** three (3) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position.
**English Language Proficiency:** Demonstrated English language proficiency, including the ability to speak, read, write and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for job tasks.
**CUNY considers full-time work to be at least 35 hours per week.** Part-time experience of at least 20 hours per week may be prorated by half and credited instead of, but not in addition to, full-time experience during the same period (e.g., two month’s related work experience at 20-34 hours per week equate to one month’s full-time related work experience.) Part-time experience of fewer than 20 hours per week cannot receive any credit.
**Note:** A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, may be required for certain positions. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. If appointed to a position requiring a Motor Vehicle Driver License, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
COMPENSATION
New Hire rate: $56,565*
Incumbent Rate: $63,918
*This amount reflects a salary suppression in place for the first 24 months of employment only.
