Description:

Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Education—

+ Minimum: High School education or equivalent.

+ Preferred: Completion of formal pharmacy technician training program.

Credentials/Licensure—

+ Minimum: Pharmacy Technician License (issued by Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Professional Licensing)

+ Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Related Experience—

+ Preferred: 2+ years pharmacy work experience in outpatient pharmacy setting; billing experience.

Essential Functions—

+ Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and established policies, procedures, or protocols.

+ Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.

+ Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation, files documentation.

+ Completes third party adjudication for prescription claims.

+ Utilizes computerized prescription dispensing system to complete the following aspect of filling patient prescriptions:

+ Create patient profiles.

+ Prescription data input

+ Third party/insurance processing

+ Prescription refilling

+ Incoming and outbound calls with patients, provider teams and third parties.

+ Order packaging and scheduling deliveries.

+ Perform simple pharmaceutical calculations including, but not limited to, days’ supply and weight-based dosing calculations.

+ Collect payments using point-of-sale system.

+ Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.

+ Excellent customer service skills.

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.

+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
