Description
We are seeking a Principal Systems Development Engineer to develop transformative systems that will revolutionize facility design and deployment. Our technology portfolio includes computer vision solutions leveraging vision language models, autonomous robotics (ground and aerial), generative data analytics, and agentic workflow automation systems deployed across our global fulfillment network.
OUR PROJECTS
• AI/ML-Powered Design Tools: Develop advanced solutions that enable engineers to deliver next-generation facility designs through 'text-to-geometry' capabilities and agentic design validation integrated into daily workflows
• Autonomous Inspection Platforms: Build robotic systems that perform detailed quality inspections, verify installation quality, and generate comprehensive digital twins
• Quality Assurance Suite: Create automated design validation, software verification, and audit planning tools for field inspection and testing prior to facility launch

• Launch new facilities with zero surprises and fully empowered operations and maintenance teams
• Ensure every customer receives their packages on time, every time
THE ROLE
The ideal candidate will drive the development of hardware and software quality solutions for designing, inspecting, and qualifying robotic facilities with minimal human intervention.
You will:
• Provide strategic technical guidance to senior leadership
• Contribute to product roadmaps and oversee technical deliverables
• Mentor engineers and conduct code reviews
• Maintain our high bar for innovation

Key job responsibilities
-Provide strategic technical guidance on AI/ML systems, autonomous robotics, and quality automation solutions
-Define and communicate system integration and evaluation strategies for physical AI deployments across global fulfillment centers
-Contribute to product roadmaps and drive cross-functional execution priorities
-Identify and analyze tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scalability
-Design and develop test systems for validating AI-powered design tools, digital twin generation, and agentic workflow automation
-Lead code reviews and maintain high standards for technical documentation
-Partner with design engineers to ensure testability and quality throughout development
-Design and execute test strategies for facility design, inspection, and qualification tools
-Write status and build reports for cross-functional leadership review
-Mentor engineers and share best practices across multi-disciplinary teams

You will be joining the Engineering Quality Management team within World Wide Design Engineering, here you'll drive impactful, solve challenging problems, and develop AI powered solutions that change how facilities and designed, built, test, and optimized for operations.

Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation delivered through the software development lifecycle in an API-enabled environment, including agile development, software architecture/patterns, and modern cloud services
- Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Rust, Java, C/C++), and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system
- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
- Experience in an engineering or delivery role for a large enterprise
- 10+ years of software development experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- 5+ years of integration, testing and automation experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent, or PhD
- Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals
- Experience developing and executing/delivering product and technical roadmaps
- Experience working with and influencing senior level stakeholders
- Experience programmatically testing products, measuring test coverage, developing the best automation, driving testability and diagnostic

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $170,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
