Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team. This role focuses on the development of a cutting-edge nuclear reactor. You will be responsible for the engineering design and development of various mechanical systems and components, ensuring they meet all technical specifications and requirements. This includes concept development, prototyping, testing, and commissioning.
Responsibilities
+ Develop mechanical/physical concepts and design processes for nuclear products with a focus on safety.
+ Identify, document, and coordinate applicable requirements and design criteria with stakeholders and systems engineers.
+ Plan and perform analysis to ensure systems and components meet intended functions and specifications.
+ Perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations using hand calculations and analytical tools.
+ Create innovative mechanical solutions for reactor components such as pressure vessels and piping.
+ Integrate design activities across team members, partners, and suppliers.
+ Develop and maintain CAD-generated engineering models of reactor systems.
+ Assess systems for manufacturability and integration considerations.
+ Write and develop design documentation, technical reports, and drawings.
+ Develop Verification and Validation plans for analytical tools.
+ Ensure project quality requirements are met according to quality procedures.
+ Provide independent and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables.
+ Maintain professionalism in all communications.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
+ Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.
+ Experience in designing mechanical or fluid systems.
+ Minimum one year of hands-on experience with hardware or manufacturing processes in production.
+ Experience with CAD and PLM software (e.g., UG/NX, Solidworks, Pro-Engineer).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with commercial nuclear power plant operations.
+ Knowledge of BPVC Section III and/or Section VIII.
+ Experience with NRC regulations and safety-related system licensing.
+ Familiarity with design using BPV Code, B31.1, or B31.3.
+ Experience with Mechanical Process Equipment selection and specification development.
+ Hands-on experience with non-metallic components and tooling development.
Work Environment
The role is based in an office environment, focusing on the development of advanced nuclear reactor systems. This position entails working on cutting-edge clean energy projects, backed by significant investments and growth potential.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $85.00/hr.
