    Job Description

    The Mechanical Engineer designs automated packaging, sortation, and labeling platforms to enable faster, more efficient delivery operations.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide technical ownership and continuous refinement of packaging, sortation, and labeling automation systems.

    + Collaborate with Electrical Engineers, Controls Engineers, packaging designers, and materials scientists to execute the design, development, and manufacturing of automation platforms.

    + Lead project and platform design evolution, ensuring systems are optimized for automation, manufacturing efficiency, and scalability.

    + Drive the development of packaging machinery and automation modules, ensuring solutions are simple, effective, and cost-efficient.

    + Champion sustainable packaging practices, streamlined supply chain integration, and reduced total cost of ownership.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in design and simulation software such as Solidworks, Ansys, Catia, and Creo.

    + Experience in functional specifications, design verification, and functional testing.

    + Expertise in mechanical design, drive system modeling, load calculation, bearing calculation, static testing, torque, and BOM.

    + 8+ years of design experience in industrial automation.

    + BS in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.

    + Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.

    + Expertise in packaging machinery, sortation systems, and labeling platforms.

    + Strong in manufacturing processes, automation modules, and system integration.

    + Focus on sustainability, efficiency, and cost reduction.

     

    Work Environment

     

    + The candidate will work on a flagship machine, identifying continuous improvement opportunities and implementing fixes and improvements. The role involves executing designs in a lab and contributing to field deployment, as well as creating test fixtures. The candidate will work at the customer site three days a week and must be able to travel up to 20%. The work environment includes a prototype testing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols. Flexible hours are necessary to support testing schedules and coordinate with remote teams.

    This is a Contract position based out of Westborough, MA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $59.80 - $62.41/hr.
