The primary role of a Lab Technologist is to perform routine medical laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This position involves working under the supervision of a medical technologist and requires adherence to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and record maintenance.
Responsibilities
+ Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
+ Perform proficiency testing and documentation for all tests in accordance with CLIA, state, and accreditation standards.
+ Adhere to quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
+ Follow established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
+ Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of results and correct the issue or notify the appropriate personnel.
+ Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
+ Assist other areas or rotations within the department with specified assignments upon completion of assigned tasks.
+ Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean medical laboratory equipment.
+ Analyze test and experiment results to ensure conformity to specifications using mechanical and electrical devices.
+ Gather and record test data to issue reports using charts, graphs, and narratives.
+ Obtain specimens, cultivate, isolate, and identify microorganisms for analysis.
+ Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.
+ Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in biology and chemistry.
+ Experience in quality assurance and quality control in a laboratory setting.
+ Ability to perform sample preparation and analysis.
+ Strong analytical skills to interpret test results and data.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology or Chemistry.
+ 1-3 years of industry experience.
Work Environment
The position is located in the Consumer Genetics department within a large reference lab. The lab technologist will be on their feet throughout the day and should be comfortable working in walk-in coolers to receive samples. Shift options include (1) Monday to Friday from 8AM to 5PM, (2) Thursday to Sunday from 7AM to 5:30PM, and (3) Tuesday to Friday from 10PM to 8:30AM.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burlington, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
