Accounts Payable Specialist (Contract / Contract-to-Hire)

Position Overview

A well-established homebuilder in Long Beach is seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy Accounts Payable Specialist to support a high-volume AP function. This role is ideal for someone with experience in homebuilding or construction accounting, particularly within a job-costing environment, and who is comfortable working with ERP systems and evolving technology. There is strong potential for conversion to a permanent role for the right individual.

Key Responsibilities

+ Process high-volume accounts payable transactions accurately and timely

+ Review, code, and enter invoices with proper job cost, phase, and cost codes

+ Perform 2- and 3-way matching (invoice, purchase order, and receiving)

+ Work closely with project managers, purchasing, and vendors to resolve discrepancies

+ Maintain organized AP files and documentation

+ Assist with vendor setup, W-9s, and 1099 preparation

+ Support month-end close activities related to AP

+ Utilize ERP systems and AP automation tools to improve efficiency

+ Adhere to internal controls and company policies

Preferred Experience (in order of priority)

+ Homebuilding accounts payable with JD Edwards (JDE)

+ Construction accounts payable with JDE

+ Homebuilding accounts payable without JDE

+ Construction accounts payable without JDE

+ General AP experience with JDE

+ General AP experience without JDE

Requirements

Qualifications

+ 3+ years of accounts payable experience, preferably in homebuilding or construction

+ Strong understanding of job-costing and cost-code structures

+ High level of comfort with technology and accounting systems

+ Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) strongly preferred

+ Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools

+ Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills

+ Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

+ Excellent communication and vendor-relation skills
