The Director of Finance & Accounting is a senior financial leader responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations of the FQHC. This role ensures strong fiscal stewardship, regulatory compliance, and accurate financial reporting in alignment with nonprofit and FQHC requirements. The Director will lead grant accounting, month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis while managing and developing a high-performing finance team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Management
+ Provide strategic leadership for the accounting and finance functions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
+ Manage, mentor, and develop finance and accounting staff; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
+ Partner with executive leadership and department heads to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
+ Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
+ Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
+ Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and FQHC-specific reporting requirements.
+ Prepare financial reports for internal leadership, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
Grant & Fund Accounting
+ Oversee grant accounting for federal, state, local, and private grants, including HRSA and other FQHC-related funding.
+ Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and compliance with grant budgets, allowable costs, and reporting deadlines.
+ Coordinate with program leaders to support grant budgeting, monitoring, and audits.
Budgeting & Forecasting
+ Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with leadership and department managers.
+ Develop multi-year financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
+ Monitor budget-to-actual performance, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
Compliance, Audits & Internal Controls
+ Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
+ Coordinate and lead annual financial audits, Uniform Guidance (Single Audit), and other external reviews.
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FQHC and nonprofit requirements.
Systems & Process Improvement
+ Oversee financial systems and accounting software; identify opportunities for automation and process efficiencies.
+ Support data integrity and accurate financial reporting across systems.
Requirements
Required
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership/management responsibility.
+ Demonstrated experience in nonprofit accounting, preferably within an FQHC or healthcare environment.
+ Strong experience with grant accounting and compliance.
+ Proven expertise in month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
+ Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
+ Advanced knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting.
+ High level of integrity, attention to detail, and analytical ability.
Preferred
+ CPA, CMA, or similar professional certification.
+ Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
+ Experience with system implementations
