The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) seeks an experienced and collaborative academic leader to serve as Vice Chair of Research. This senior faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor will provide strategic leadership for the department’s research mission and support the growth, productivity, and success of faculty and trainees across the research spectrum. The Vice Chair of Research will work in close partnership with the Department Chair, institutional leadership, and UMSOM research offices to strengthen research infrastructure, expand extramural funding, and enhance the national profile of the department’s scholarly activities Successful candidates should be able to: • Provide leadership and oversight of the department’s research enterprise, encompassing basic, translational, clinical, and outcomes research • Monitor, track, and report departmental research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications, grant submissions and awards, presentations, and other scholarly activities • Promote and support scholarly activity among faculty, residents, and fellows, including grant development, manuscript preparation, and participation in regional, national, and international scientific meetings • Provide mentorship to junior faculty and early-career investigators to support academic advancement, research independence, and promotion • Oversee resident and fellow research programs, including research curriculum development, project oversight, regulatory compliance, and dissemination of scholarly work • Prepare and present an annual departmental research report outlining accomplishments, challenges, and strategic opportunities • Lead the development and implementation of a multi-year departmental research strategic plan aligned with UMSOM and institutional priorities • Collaborate with UMSOM research offices, funding agencies, and external partners to enhance research infrastructure, funding opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaboration • PhD with a sustained record of research excellence and extramural funding from federal agencies, foundations, and/or industry • Candidates have an established federal grant portfolio that can be transferred to the University of Maryland • Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at UMSOM on the Tenure Track • Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong record of mentoring faculty, residents, and fellows • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and innovation within a complex academic medical center UMSOM offers competitive compensation and comprehensive suite of benefits including 403b retirement, health, dental, vision, life, malpractice, paid vacation, CME leave and allowance, relocation assistance, and more.
