    Summary Serving Congress and the Supreme Court, the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) is the builder and steward of the landmark buildings and grounds of Capitol Hill. As the Reasonable Accommodation Specialist, you will ensure all programs, services, benefits, activities, and offices are fully accessible to, and usable by people with disabilities and reasonable accommodations. You are also responsible for AOC’s compliance with government wide ADA title I-Employment, disability rights and laws. Responsibilities Major duties for this position include: Reasonable Accommodation Management and Compliance (80%) Provides technical advice, providing guidance to AOC management, employees, and applicants on issues impacting individuals with disabilities. Manages a caseload of complex reasonable accommodation requests, within established time frames to include accommodating an employee in their current position. Responsible for providing expert advice and leadership in carrying out agency policies and programs of nondiscrimination and affirmative employment. Performs special assignments and projects for the Deputy Director, utilizing expert knowledge of ADA, other disability rights laws and the AOC policies, regulations, and guidelines. Reasonable Accommodation Advisement (20%) Provides technical advice, providing guidance to AOC management, employees, applicants, human resources officials and advocacy groups on issues impacting individuals with disabilities. Ensures the recommendations to the agency’s disability employment programs are consistent with established laws, rules, and regulations. Drafts, formulates, amends, revises, and prepares operating policies and guidelines that address the collection and analysis of workforce data. Provides advice to management and staff on approaches to promote disability awareness. Coordinates, develops, and provides disability related training as necessary. Drafts correspondence to the employee, management official and treating physicians, communicating to all parties the necessary information to ensure processing of requests for reasonable accommodation and accessibility. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be able to pass a drug test. Your resume and question responses must demonstrate the job-related KSAs. You must meet the definition of specialized experience. To be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below: A citizen of the United States; A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States. Qualifications You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes the following (the applicant must meet a minimum of four (4) specialized experience qualifications): (1) Comprehensive and thorough knowledge of laws, equal employment opportunity policy and procedures, rules, regulations, and precedent legal and administrative decisions related to personnel management. (2) Demonstrated skills in fact-finding, investigative, and analytical techniques requiring decisions in interpreting varied and complex factual situations in the context of the requirements of laws, regulations, or policies. (4) Experience developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating EEO Reasonable Accommodation program. (5) Experience identifying barriers to reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities including management policies and practices to eliminate barriers to enhance employment opportunities. (5) Experience interpreting and applying guidelines in the context of employee requests for reasonable accommodation/accessibility. Education Additional Information Welcome Veterans.
