    Job Summary

    The **Recreation Services** team at the University of Colorado, Boulder is accepting applications for a **Fitness Coordinator** ! This position is responsible for collaborative leadership and support of comprehensive fitness and wellness programming. The Fitness Coordinator will assist with program development and management, including personal training, group fitness, instructional and special events that are focused on the physical, social and developmental interests of the campus community. Special focus will rest on students and driving student engagement and belonging. Work performed includes strategic forecasting, implementing risk management strategies, fiscal oversight, developing policies and procedures, staff hiring, training, and development. The Fitness Coordinator also works with appropriate internal and external partners, while providing program oversight to ensure compliance and operational success. Works independently with limited oversight. This position supports evening programming with a schedule of 11am-7pm during the school year with occasional weekends necessary.

    CU Boulder **Recreation Services** is a welcoming, valued, campus resource that promotes healthy lifestyles through high-quality, accessible, facilities and experiences. This student-fee-funded unit features a student-led CUSG Recreation Board and a diverse team of professional experts to help meet evolving recreational needs and support student engagement and success. Recreation Services oversees the LEED Platinum main campus Student Rec Center, a building with over 300,000 square feet of recreation and fitness activity space, as well as a satellite recreation center at Williams Village, outdoor basketball courts, a challenge ropes course, and eight turf and grass fields around campus. Throughout these facilities, members of the CU community can engage with a variety of programs that include ice skating, indoor rock climbing, intramural and club sports, yoga, aquatics and so much more.

     

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    _Administration_

    + Responsible for the cooperative development, management, and implementation of the Fitness & Wellness Program.

    + Support daily operations of Fitness & Wellness programs through development and delivery, while ensuring outcomes are interdepartmentally and institutionally aligned. Accomplishing this by offering diverse, high-quality experiences for students and the greater University community.

    + Assess, design and refine high-quality group fitness programs by supervising staff, providing ongoing training opportunities, and crafting a fresh, diverse and comprehensive group fitness schedule each semester.

    + Develop collaborative relationships with internal Recreation Services departments to provide special requested classes, training, and workshops.

    + Develop and implement an annual educational curriculum focused on the development and growth of personal trainers and group fitness instructors.

    + Work collaboratively with Fit Well office staff to assist in providing support for group fitness instructors and personal trainers.

    + Maintain group fitness and personal training statistics and provide quarterly and annual reports on participation levels.

    + Serve as backup for Senior Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness in their absence.

    + Use supportive assessment tools and direct management regarding area challenges. Use university procedural knowledge as well as area expertise to address and resolve pertinent issues primarily independently. Communicate resolutions clearly with appropriate parties.

    + Work collaboratively with Student Life Marketing & Communications to create, manage, and implement any media and promotional needs.

    _Supervision/Oversight_

    + Responsible for the daily supervision of 65+ student, and non-student hourly employees, along with day-to-day delivery of group fitness classes and personal training services.

    + Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and ensuring pay for all student employees, offering continued oversight of employee status, and addressing any arising issues. This is done collaboratively with Student Life Employee Experience.

    + Assess and evaluate both group fitness and personal trainers annually.

    + Lead Personal Training Prep course each semester. Responsibilities include course syllabus, course content and design, classroom lecture and hands on experiential learning, assisting students in registering for exam, selecting candidates within the course for auditions to join the Rec Center personal training team.

    _Fiscal Management_

    + Responsible for supporting the fiscal operations of group fitness classes, instructional programs, and personal training by working in collaboration with Student Life Business Services.

    + Track budgets in area of group fitness and personal training.

    + Manage inventory for all fitness studios.

    _Risk Management/Compliance_

    + Responsible for assisting in the implementation of risk management protocols to ensure the safety of fitness activities on behalf of the University.

    + Support the execution of risk management strategies to ensure a safe, rewarding student experience.

    + Ensure equipment and facilities are safe and suitable for use, to include all studios and Fit Well suite, fitness assessment room and personal training space.

    + Provide on-site event management and logistical assistance for special events hosted by Fitness & Wellness.

    + Ensure compliance in obtaining appropriate waivers in group fitness and personal training.

    + Conduct regular review of personal training health information forms and client training and complete revisions as needed.

    _Other_

    + Work collaboratively with both internal and external program areas and departments to ensure successful programming.

    + Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings.

    + Participate in other departmental or divisional initiatives, programs, and committees as required.

    + Ensure that the Recreation Center's facilities, equipment, and programs are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department quality by using and attending its offerings.

    + Engage in department coordinated trainings with a focus on leadership, access, and community building.

     

    What You Should Know

     

    The shift schedule for this position may require working from 11am-7pm and some weekends as necessary.

    What We Require

    + Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience in fitness programming equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

    + Certification from one of the following: ACE, AFAA, NASM, NSCA, in the areas of Group Fitness and/or Personal Training.

    + CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within first 3 months of employment.
