Job Description Summary
As a member of this world class team, the Senior Controls Engineer will lead and execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for performing studies and translating these into specifications, designs, software, test plans, testing and commissioning of the protection and control aspects of fixed series capacitors (FSC), and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within the FACTS portfolio.

Role Summary/Purpose
The Senior Controls Engineer will act as a technical expert within GE Vernova’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) organization, with primary responsibility for protection and control systems supporting Synchronous Condenser (SC) and Fixed Series Capacitor (FSC) projects. In addition to project execution, this role will play a critical part in New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, platform modernization, and ongoing product enhancements across the FACTS portfolio.
This position is intended for an experienced engineer who can balance hands‑on technical execution with mentoring, and cross‑functional influence, helping shape the next generation of FACTS control systems while raising the technical capability of the broader team.
Essential Responsibilities:
Project Execution & Technical Leadership
+ Lead the design and implementation of complex protection and control systems for FSC and Synchronous Condenser projects, from specification through commissioning.
+ Translate customer requirements and grid‑code obligations into robust control architectures, software, logic diagrams, schematics, and hardware specifications.
+ Serve as the technical point of contact for controls‑related issues, supporting project managers and interfacing directly with customers when required.
+ Lead development and execution of factory and system‑level test plans, including RTDS / real‑time simulation‑based testing.
+ Support field activities including commissioning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of system issues.
Product Development & NPI
+ Play a significant technical role in New Product Introduction (NPI) and product enhancement programs related to FACTS control platforms.
+ Drive modernization initiatives such as control platform evolution, software architecture improvements, cybersecurity enhancements, and increased reuse/standardization.
+ Support development of technical standards, templates, and reusable design assets to improve quality, consistency, and execution efficiency.
+ Partner with systems, mechanical, electrical, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet performance, cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
Cost, Quality & Continuous Improvement
+ Lead or contribute to cost‑reduction and value‑engineering initiatives, including design optimization, supplier selection, automation, and process improvements.
+ Perform and lead root cause analyses (RCA) for technical issues and drive corrective and preventive actions.
+ Support and uphold project quality procedures and continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with ISO 9001 and internal quality systems.
Mentorship & Team Development
+ Act as a mentor and technical coach for early‑ and mid‑career engineers, supporting skill development in controls design, testing, and commissioning.
+ Provide technical guidance, peer reviews, and knowledge transfer across projects and product initiatives.
+ Contribute to building a strong technical culture focused on engineering rigor, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Qualifications/Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field with **10+ years** of relevant experience, **or**
+ Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with **8** **+ years** of relevant experience.
+ Demonstrated experience delivering complex control or protection systems for utility‑scale or industrial power applications.
Eligibility Requirements:
+ Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% as required, which may include remote locations and international travel, and be willing to comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies

Desired Characteristics:
+ Strong background in protection and control systems for high‑voltage or large rotating equipment applications.
+ Experience with industrial or utility control platforms (e.g., PLC‑based or distributed control systems).
+ Familiarity with real‑time simulation environments (RTDS or equivalent) and formal testing methodologies.
+ Working knowledge of IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, NESC, and applicable grid‑code requirements.
+ Experience supporting NERC PRC and/or NERC CIP compliance is a plus.
+ Demonstrated troubleshooting capability across electrical, controls, and system‑integration domains.
+ Proficiency with engineering tools such as MATLAB, PSCAD / EMTP‑type tools, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and standard Microsoft applications.
+ Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across global, multidisciplinary teams.
+ Proven ability to lead technically, influence without authority, and deliver high‑quality solutions on schedule and within budget.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
