Hours: 40 hours/week, Mon.-Fri. 7 hours/day, Sat. 5 hours/day, 7:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Starting and ending times may vary according to weather and crop conditions.
Workers may be requested to work 12+ hours per day depending upon the conditions in the fields and maturity of the crops but will not be required to do so. Workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and on their Sabbath but will not be required to do so. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available.
Down Time: Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season.

Job Duties:
Flowering Trees and Shrubs: Workers will be working with flowering trees and shrubs. Workers will plant, cultivate, harvest, propagate, grade, store and ship container and field grown horticultural products. Harvesting crops may include grading and tagging. Some harvesting may require digging up products and placing on pallets. Grading is done by size. Products are measured, tied in bundles, and placed in storage for shipment. Workers will harvest seed and/or take cuttings from trees and shrubs, place in containers pre-filled with growing media and transplant cuttings and seedlings to prepared areas.
Bare Root Products: Workers will handle a variety of bare root products. Workers will propagate, plant, cultivate, harvest, and prepare products for shipment.
Nursery Work: Workers will be required to start all crops from seed. Seedlings will be grown in 10 x 20 trays filled with sand or dirt and kept in a controlled environment. When seedlings reach approximately 2 inches tall, and per supervisors; instruction, workers will transplant seedlings from tray into peat pots. When seedlings reach appropriate size, approximately 6 to 8 inches tall, workers will be required to transfer from peat pots to carious selling container and transport to prepared fields for transplanting. When produce is ready for marketing workers will load onto trucks to be shipped to purchaser’s locations.
General duties: Duties performed in the field will be sporadic all through the contract due to various crops and crop conditions. Duties will/could include preparing soil, planting, pruning, cutting, deadheading, pinching, trimming to shape, spacing plants, pest management, fertilizing with granular or liquid fertilizer, cleaning work areas, transporting plant materials in the nursery/greenhouse areas, loading, and unloading plants and all other duties associated with ornamental plant production. Between harvesting, workers may be required to perform duties to prepare crops for marketing. Workers will also unload pallets from trucks or wagons into fields for transplanting. Worker may unload and restock for storage.
Loading and unloading: workers may be required to work on flatbed trailer tying B&B trees to the trailer with twine. Workers may be required to work loading or unloading bare root trees by hand into refrigerated trailers. Workers may be required to load and unload any of the greenhouse nursery stock.
Cultivation: Workers may be required to work as operators of wheel tractors pulling cultivators, mower or hilling disks.
Watering: Workers may be required to water trees by hand using pumps and hoses.
Farm Equipment Operation: Workers may be required to operate pick-up trucks, 4-wheelers, tractors, and other farm equipment during daily operations, as an incidental activity. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, workers will be instructed in the safety and operation of the tractor before driving the tractor. Tractors should be driven in a manner to protect operator, other workers, products, trees, crops, and equipment.
During certain duties, workers may be required to work in teams to accomplish a certain task. When engage in teamwork activities workers must coordinate with other members of the team to accomplish the task.
Worker must be available and willing to work the entire season.
Worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions.

The use, possession or being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol during working time is prohibited. Employees may also be requested to take random drug tests at no cost to the worker. Workers are subject to random drug testing effective their first date of work. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive will result in immediate termination.
### Minimum Education Required
No High School Diploma or GED required.
### Minimum Experience Required
All applicants must have at least 2 months experience working in a commercial tree nursery or a commercial produce farm. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
Must be able to perform work that requires exposure to extreme temperatures; extensive pushing or pulling; prolonged sitting or walking; frequent stooping or bending; and repetitive movements for extended periods of time.

### Additional Compensation
Employer reserves the right to pay higher than the stated wage rate to any worker foreign or domestic. This is not promised or guaranteed. The decision to pay above the stated rates will be made by the employer, at their sole discretion, and will be based on factors including the recipients’ performance and tenure including working team leaders, and drivers.
All domestic and/or nonresident seasonal farm workers that have completed previous seasons for the employer may be compensated above the stated hourly wage rate. This is not promised or guaranteed. Working team leaders may receive a higher wage rate. The decision to pay higher rates to workers will be based on past performance, current performance, duties, attendance, and returning workers, including the number of seasons completed with the employer. They may also offer bonuses to workers that complete the season. This is not promised or guaranteed.
As required for all workers in Minnesota, hours worked in excess of 48 hours in a work week will be paid at the rate of 1.5 times the regular rate of pay.

### Job Benefits
EMPLOYER ASSURANCES: Work guaranteed for 3/4 of contract period, starting with date of arrival at work site. Employer provides free housing for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Employer pays inbound transportation and subsistence to work site upon 50% completion of work contract for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of at least $16.28 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts. Required work-related tools and supplies provided free of charge by employer.
Effective Jan 1, 2024, per MN State Statute, an employee will earn one hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours of accrued Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) per year, provided the employee works a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year.
