    The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Assessment has a vacancy.

     

    The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.

     

    The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is seeking a Geologist for the Underground Storage Tank Division to manage corrective action activities at sites impacted by leaking UST systems. This role combines geotechnical expertise, environmental site investigation, and regulatory oversight to safeguard soil, groundwater, and surface waters while ensuring compliance with state and federal standards.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree in a geoscience field or geological engineering.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    1. Review site investigation report once a release has been confirmed

    2. Review RECAP Evaluation Report and determine calculated Limiting Risk Standards are correct

    3. Review slug test data of permeability data to determine the appropriate groundwater classification

    4. Review and comment on Corrective Action Plans to address contaminated media above RECAP standards

    5. Conduct site visits to oversee investigations and installation and implementation of approved remedial technologies

    6. Participate in the ROG group to evaluate appropriate corrective action technologies and cost estimate

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of permanent classified employee. If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.

     

    Domicile: Statewide

     

    Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Geologist 1, 2, or 3.

     

    Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

     

    + Geologist 1: $22.57 per hour

    + Geologist 2: $25.84 per hour

    + Geologist 3: $29.59 per hour
