WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES TECHNICIAN A-C/ POINTE-AUX-CHENES WMA, COASTAL LAFAYETTE REGIONS ( 3 POSITIONS)
This position is a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A-C position based at Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area (WMA) that receives direct supervision from a Technician Supervisor. This position is responsible for performing tasks associated with the daily operation of Pointe-aux-Chenes, Lake Boeuf, Salvador, Timken and Pass-a-Loutre WMAs and Queen Bess Refuge. Such tasks may include maintenance of facilities, equipment and grounds, WMA management and enhancements, data collection, public/user assistance, etc. These WMAs and refuge are highly dynamic coastal environments that provide habitat for a large diversity and abundance of resident and migratory wildlife. These areas are located in Terrebonne, Lafourche, St. Charles, Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes and consists of habitats ranging from swamp to brackish habitats. Overnight travel for multiple days at remote areas and throughout Louisiana will be required. Working in the field, out of boats, at night and in inclement weather will also be required.

Job Duties and Other Information
JOB DUTIES
The incumbent is responsible for the following:
Perform project activities
+ The incumbent’s duties include conducting stewardship activities, and maintenance and development of areas and facilities on one or more coastal wildlife management areas and/or refuges.
+ Assist Supervisor and Biologists in land stewardship and habitat management practices on WMAs and Refuges. This may include planting of food plots for wildlife by disking, fertilizing, and seeding and burning to encourage the growth of succulent vegetation. The position will assist with the control of nuisance animals and noxious vegetation, operation of water management structures and pumps, and monitoring and manipulating water levels and salinities in accordance with approved water management criteria and/or instructions from biologists. The incumbent must also assist in the upkeep and maintenance of levee systems on water management areas.
+ The incumbent will assists with the collecting of biological data via hunter bag checks, fishing creel checks, water level & salinity data, assist with intensively managed adult, handicapped, and youth hunts, conduct trapping and banding projects, etc. May also assist with collection of harvest data on furbearers and alligators, sick or diseased animals.
+ The incumbent will monitor special use permit activities for fishing, hunting, trapping, houseboat mooring, area use, etc.
+ Assists in monitoring and reporting on the implementation of mitigation projects, dredge projects and mineral exploration and development projects within the work areas.
Maintenance of Infrastructure and Equipment
+ Coordinates with supervisor and participates in maintenance, repair and construction projects as well as habitat projects. This may involve water control structures, trails, roads, parking areas, campsites, facilities, workshops, storage buildings, water vessels, lawnmowers, tractors, UTVs, engines, etc. and include tasks such as mowing, grading, ditching, cleaning, etc.
+ Works with supervisor to set and accomplish project priorities, tasks, etc.
+ Properly marks and maintains WMA and Refuge boundaries.
+ The incumbent is required to routinely purchase and transport supplies, materials, equipment, etc.
+ Implements maintenance and minor repair projects that may include basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and mechanical duties.
Miscellaneous Functions
+ Conducts other duties as assigned
