Position Description
TheMathematics Department (https://www.math.txst.edu/) at Texas State University seeks outstanding educators to contribute to its teaching mission by inviting applicants for multiple Assistant Professor of Instruction positions beginning in Fall 2026. An Assistant Professor of Instruction is a full-time, nine-month faculty position in a promotion eligible track. The instructional faculty appointment is aligned with Texas State University’s commitment to enhancing its capacity and productivity in teaching, learning, and instructional contributions. The primary responsibility and workload of an instructional faculty member is to provide effective teaching. In addition to instruction, appointments may include responsibility for service through course or program coordination, professional outreach, committee membership, and other activities aligned with instructional activities and outcomes.
About the Department of Mathematics
We are a growing department with a wide range of research strengths in Analysis, Topology, Algebra, Combinatorics, Statistics, Logic, and Mathematics Education. The department has two Ph.D. programs in mathematics and mathematics education as well as several master’s programs. The department strives to create a welcoming environment that invites students from a range of backgrounds to succeed in mathematics. We particularly invite applicants who are excited to mentor a wide variety of students, both graduate and undergraduate. The department is dedicated to supporting its junior faculty through mentoring and university-wide programs.
Required Qualifications
+ A Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics Education or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics. Candidates whose degree is in a closely related field must meet SACS accreditation standards to teach in a mathematics department.
+ Significant undergraduate teaching experience as an instructor of record (or comparable experience).
+ Demonstrated competence in teaching mathematics.
Preferred Qualifications
+ A Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related area.
+ A documented record of effectiveness in classroom instruction.
+ An ability to contribute to departmental missions related to instruction both in and outside of the classroom.
+ Ability to teach statistics courses or courses involving scientific computing.
