Summary:
The Patient Safety Specialist serves as a central expert in Northern Light Health’s Safety Event Reporting system, applying risk management principles to enhance data driven decision making and organizational learning. This role designs and builds analytical dashboards that drive insights across key domains including Patient Safety, Employee Safety, Service Feedback, Quality and Peer Review. The Specialist partners with internal teams and the Patient Safety Organization (PSO) to bring national best practices and regulatory standards into our health system’s safety framework. Through optimizing workflows, modules and safety structures, this position ensures a proactive, transparent and high reliability approach to safety across the enterprise by informing leaders and communicating across our organization.
Responsibilities:
+ System expert and administrator for Northern Light Health’s Safety Event Reporting System; ensuring accurate event capture, data integrity and optimal system performance across all member organizations. Collaborates with vendor to make updates to platform, aligning with national best practice and a proactive safety culture. Communicates downtime and anticipates any issues that may arise, providing risk mitigation strategy and action plans.
+ Works with vendor and Northern Light Health leadership to curate, build and maintain both client and subscriber dashboards that visualize safety trends, performance metrics and key risk indicators to support data driven decision making.
+ Builds and aligns shared searches, ensures appropriate access and communicates changes and data availability to quality and operational leaders.
+ Serves as primary facilitator and support to HRP Governance Team, communicating risks, requests and changes while collaborating with leadership to develop meaningful agendas, sound decision making and ensuring alignment with Team Charter and principles.
+ Applies risk management principles to identify patterns, assess root causes and recommends mitigation strategies that reduce harm and improve system safety. Collaborates with Process Improvement Specialists to ensure implementation and follow through.
+ Collaborates with clinical, quality and operational leaders to create and optimize workflows within all modules as well as to ensure timely and thorough leader review. Updates modules to align with vendor recommendations and ensures adequate maintenance and upkeep for reliable end user process and experience.
+ Leverage insights from the Patient Safety Organization and High Reliability Platform communities, networking with other organizations to identify best practice.
+ Develop and deliver education and training for staff and leaders on effective event reporting, safety culture, data analysis and system use. Ensures standardization of data collection and serves as central expert and resource.
+ Monitor and evaluate safety metrics to identify trends, track progress and report findings to leadership.
+ Serves as IT support within Safety Event Reporting system as well as PSO, ensuring adequate and appropriate permissions and access to cases, alerts, data and dashboards. Updates with change in employee roles and structures and is responsible for monitoring IAM, Teams and Service Now Requests.
+ Promote a culture of safety and continuous learning by fostering transparency, accountability and collaboration across the organization. Standardizes approach to event review and follow up and gains buy in on a system wide level.
