Are you ready to play a key role in life-changing medicine? UPMC Memorial is seeking full-time flex Medical Laboratory Scientists and Medical Laboratory Technicians to join our team! This role will work evening shifts (2:45 PM - 11:15 PM), including weekends and holidays. These are generalist roles, providing support across all areas of the laboratory.
In this role, you will perform accurate routine and STAT laboratory tests used for diagnosing and treating patients and monitoring treatment responses. You will apply your clinical knowledge to ensure precise testing and high-quality patient care outcomes while working under the supervision of Medical Laboratory Scientists in a collaborative laboratory environment.

UPMC provides a competitive sign-on bonus for eligible candidates:
+ Medical Laboratory Technicians: $10,000 for a 2-year commitment
+ Medical Laboratory Scientists: $15,000 for a 2-year commitment
_*Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on their experience and education. Starting pay for Medical Laboratory Scientists is $29.94/hour._
Responsibilities:
+ Interact professionally with all laboratory customers and respond courteously to inquiries, both internally and externally.
+ Follow all laboratory and hospital policies, procedures, quality assurance, and personnel guidelines.
+ Collect and process specimens accurately, ensuring sample integrity, appropriateness, and stability.
+ Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures precisely, efficiently, and according to established protocols.
+ Recognize critical, abnormal, or unacceptable test results and take appropriate follow-up action per protocols.
+ Identify and address problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, or supplies as outlined in procedures.
+ Enter accurate patient demographics and test orders into the laboratory information system, confirming sample and information adequacy.
+ Operate, maintain, and perform quality control on laboratory equipment, including preventive maintenance and minor repairs, while monitoring supplies cost-effectively.
+ Ensure a safe work environment by following biohazard, chemical, sharps, and compliance guidelines, while maintaining patient confidentiality.
+ Assist in training and orienting new employees, students, and residents using established competency and operational standards.
Medical Lab Technician (MLT):
+ Associate's degree in laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), OR
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with at least 6 months of clinical laboratory experience, OR
+ Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high-complexity testing.
+ Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
+ Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
Medical Lab Scientist (MLS):
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university and successful completion of a CAHEA-accredited Medical Technology program, OR
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and ASCP categorical certification, OR
+ Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and at least two years of experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
+ One year of experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
+ Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred. New York license required for NY locations.
