    Job Description

    Insight Global is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer for a university in Houston, TX. The Senior Electrical Engineer provides specialized expertise in the design, operation, and compliance of campus electrical systems and projects. Serving as a key technical resource, this role collaborates with project managers, maintenance teams, central plant staff, and other campus stakeholders, while coordinating with external consultants and contractors. Responsibilities include reviewing designs for accuracy and code compliance and ensuring the efficient, reliable, and sustainable performance of electrical infrastructure across university facilities.

    Essential Functions:

    - Define design criteria, establish and justify project scope, and develop creative design concepts for university projects

     

    - Conduct feasibility analyses for new initiatives

     

    - Evaluate and review engineering designs, specifications, and special requirements from design through construction

     

    - Coordinate technical issues with Rice personnel and provide guidance and resolution on complex projects

     

    - Participate in selecting external design professionals and ensure adherence to Rice’s Design Standards

     

    - Consult on operation and maintenance of building systems

     

    - Collaborate with estimators to align electrical costs with budgets

     

    - Advance Rice’s Design Standards and drive innovative solutions

     

    - Lead special projects as primary project manager from initiation through close-out

     

    - Perform other duties as assigned

    Skills and Requirements

     

    - Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)

     

    - Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license

     

    - 4+ years of experience as a Design Engineer in either higher education or healthcare electrical design projects

     

    - Prior consulting experience in electrical engineering with the ability to review designs, challenge assumptions, and collaborate confidently with design teams

     

    - Proficiency in office and construction productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Procure)

     

    - Work on district energy plant systems and electrical design projects

     

    - Communicate technical concepts effectively through written, verbal, and presentation formats

     

    - Collaborate across engineering disciplines and manage building/infrastructure projects

     

    - Apply technical expertise in design and project delivery

     

    - Exhibit resilience, diplomacy, influence, and strong relationship-building skills

     

    - Interpret building codes and specifications accurately

     

    Demonstrate attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines - Experience working in a context where regular exposure to facility equipment was achieved

     

    - Experience with energy efficient or LEED certified systems

     

    - Experience with project management information management systems
