Description
Overview
Working under The New York Public Library’s (NYPL) Communications & Marketing Department, the Senior Graphic Designer plays a key role in supporting The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts’ (LPA) visibility and public identity by developing and producing engaging, high-quality design materials. This position focuses on the creation of print and digital collateral, and signage that promote and enhance the public experience at LPA—ensuring clear communication, accessibility, and alignment with the NYPL brand.
Responsibilities:
+ **Design a Wide Range of Print and Digital Collateral:** Create brochures, flyers, rack cards, posters, bookmarks, promotional items, digital screens, and branded templates, and more to support LPA’s communications goals.
+ **Collaborate with Internal Teams:** Work closely with LPA staff and NYPL’s Communications and Marketing Department to interpret project goals and deliver high-quality design solutions
+ **Maintain Brand Consistency:** Uphold NYPL’s visual identity across all materials and contribute to the development of LPA-specific style guides or templates as needed
+ **Prioritize and Manage Multiple Projects:** Organize timelines and workload to deliver creative work on time and within budget, often balancing several projects simultaneously
+ Video Animations: Produce video animations for ads and social media
+ **Design Public Signage:** Develop wayfinding, informational, and promotional signage for public areas throughout the building—ensuring clarity, visual consistency, and accessibility
+ **Lead Production and Vendor Communications:** Outline project specifications, request estimates, confirm timelines and delivery details, and oversee installation and de-installation of projects
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
Required Experience
+ 5+ years of professional design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating strong print and signage work
Required Skills
+ Expert-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Canva on Mac OS
+ Strong skills in typography, layout, branding, and visual storytelling
+ Experience working within brand systems and contributing to visual identity guidelines
+ Solid understanding of print production processes, file preparation, and signage materials
+ Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to work independently and collaborativelyStrong interpersonal and communication skills
+ Focused attention to detail, with basic grammar and proofreading abilities
+ Familiarity with environmental design and public-facing display systems
