    JOB DESCRIPTION

    This is a multi-level posting.

     

    Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

     

    •Determines protective relay and control schemes to be applied at electric substations. Works with substation engineering to develop capital budget estimates and authorizations for expenditure. Performs power system overcurrent coordination studies, power fault analyses and investigations of electric system operations. Determines settings for electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor-based relays and associated communications devices. Recommends settings for substation feeder reclosers and assists distribution engineering with coordination studies and line recloser applications and settings. Develops design standards and recommends system protection practices. Provides technical assistance to operations personnel.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system; focus may include planning and budgeting gas and electric systems. (45%)

     

    Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (20%)

     

    Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports. (20%)

     

    Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%)

     

    Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (5%)

     

    Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.

     

    Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.

     

    Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.

     

    Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    •Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.

     

    The engineer II position requires one to three years of experience.

     

    The senior engineer position requires five years of industry experience. PE license preferred.

     

    The senior engineer II requires eight years of industry experience. Requires PE license. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer.

     

    The principal engineer position requires 12 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature. Requires PE license. If no PE license, must have 15 years as a practicing engineer.

     

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

     

    Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

     

    Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
