The Research Foundation at Farmingdale State College (FSC) currently seeks a part-time Professional Tutor for the TRIO program. TRIO is a federal grant funded program intended to serve underrepresented students with the primary goal of increasing the college retention and graduation rates of participants. TRIO serves low-income, first-generation, and students with a documented disability. The program has a long-standing history of dedicated service toward the mission of guiding, supporting and advocating on behalf of its students as they pursue excellence within higher education. As participants of these programs, students have access to a myriad of services including academic and pre-professional counseling, tutoring, experiential learning and cultural experiences, educational workshops, leadership development, advocacy and special events.
The ideal Professional Tutor is friendly and approachable, responsible and reliable, organized and efficient, and can work with a diverse student body while always maintaining a professional demeanor. The ideal candidate must have solid interpersonal communication skills with a genuine desire to assist students. Professional Tutors work directly with students to help them clarify course concepts and materials, develop effective ways to learn the material, share learning resources and study strategies, and provide general course-related guidance. Tutors may also help with special tutoring-related projects or other duties as assigned by the Director.
This position requires an understanding of and demonstrated experience with best practices and theories related to tutoring and/or teaching. Prior undergraduate tutoring, teaching assistant, or other teaching experience is a requirement

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor's degree.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in the relevant subject area (as evident by transcripts).
+ Minimum of one academic year undergraduate tutoring, teaching assistant (TA), or other teaching experience.
+ Ability to maintain a regular weekly tutoring schedule for the semester.
+ Competent in technology and experience using Google Meet and video-conferencing software.
+ Ability to work with a diverse student body.
+ Solid interpersonal communication skills and a genuine desire to assist students.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Farmingdale State College graduate, or completed relevant undergraduate coursework at Farmingdale State College.
+ Prior experience tutoring Farmingdale State College courses.
+ Proficiency or native speaker in a language other than English.
Additional Information:
This is a part-time Research Foundation position.
