    Sr. Manager, Engineering

    Position Summary

    This key leadership role is tasked with leading the site Manufacturing Engineering team, and is also responsible for Maintenance, and Safety programs. The team is put to the task of developing, supporting, and improving processes used to manufacture both NPI and sustaining product. This role provides tactical support and leadership for site NPI while being focused on driving process improvements and optimization to reduce throughput times and costs.

     

    Cross-functional teaming with New Product Development, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, Program Management, Operations, and Quality is critical and key to success in this position.

     

    This key technical leadership role will lead and motivate a group of experienced engineers, technicians, programmers on the Manufacturing Engineering team as well as Maintenance technicians and safety coordinators.

    Principle Responsibilities

    + **Recruiting, Retaining, and Managing Talent** . Find the best technical talent, put them in the best positions to help Tecomet win and actively support them. Creates followership through collaboration.

    + **Leading by example with communication and collaboration** – ensure open communication both within the engineering team and the broader site as well as outside of the 4 walls to other facilities and group/corporate functions. Actively share/receive best practices and lessons learned.

    + **Being a player-coach** , actively engage with the teams on work but able to detach, elevate and provide leadership as needed across site and broader business.

    + **Actively encouraging and supporting talent development and growth** including individual development plans and succession planning, as well as performance improvement planning where needed.

    + **Building People, the Team, and the Organization.** Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis. Actively manage the Engineering Skills Inventory for the site team and use for planning.

    + **Coaching and mentoring Engineering/Technical staff** to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer. Provide regular and balanced feedback to team members.

    + **Establishing clear measurable goals and objectives** by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).

    + **Expressing pride in staff and encouraging them** to feel good about their accomplishments. Ensure recognition and rewards are provided as well as real time feedback where appropriate.

    + **Empowering and driving individuals and the team to continuously improve** themselves to grow as well as improve the business.

    + **Acting with Absolute Integrity** at all times and casts the shadow of a leader with sound judgment, transparency, humility, and self-awareness.

    + **Drive Innovation & Growth** in partnering with site leadership team and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team to **define** , **develop and implement a near and long-range productivity road map and funnel** aligned with group and corporate strategies and roadmaps.

    + **Chart the Course** **and encourages the team to look** at new technologies and methods both within Tecomet and externally via benchmarking, research, and networking.

    + **Be the technical lead and “service provider” for the site general manager** and be an active member of the site leadership staff. Drive high service level for site through the engineering team.

    + **Lead engineering support to help meet or exceed targets in safety, quality, and delivery for the site** . Build problem solving capability in team to develop solutions to customer and site pain points.

    + **Identify creative ways to improve productivity and reduce costs** by streamlining processes and systems including driving CIP/COGS savings for site.

    + **Support Advance/Project Engineering with NPI initiatives for the site** . Provide core teams with required manufacturing engineering support to effectively execute NPI programs as well as AME initiatives.

    + **Own, manage, and improve engineering documentation** and systems for the site including:

    + BOMs, routings, item masters

    + In process drawings & work instructions

    + CNC and other automation programs

    + PFMEAs (Own) and Measurement/Inspection Plans (with Quality)

    + Continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence

    + Provide support via resources or data/information for quoting of parts at the site.

    + **Support equipment evaluations** following Advance/Project Engineering and corporate guidance. Provide inputs and feedback for new areas of technology or equipment to explore.

    + **Partner with site GM and controller to own site CAPEX plan** and connection to corporate process and prioritization.

    + **Actively support NPI core teams** on process design, development, validation, and launch for the site including IQ/OQ/PQ through validations and launch.

    + Ensure technical support from team for Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFMA) efforts.

    + **Leads through TBS** – is relentless in driving lean thinking and application in a consistent, structured manner throughout the site and when needed, across Tecomet including standardization and best practices deployment.

    + **Promote and develop site maintenance plan with extreme focus on vendor relationship building, creating a network for repair support, promoting predictive and preventive maintenance mindset, and leading a team of maintenance technicians to reduce downtime and sustain production.**

    + **Cultivates a culture of safety first and leads the sites safety program, proposes improvements, and attends to general EHS guidelines.**

    + Manages the planning and allocation of staff resources, training requirements and prioritization of projects. Generate and measure tangible development opportunities for direct reports

    + Supports Quality Systems programs and requirements through enablement of SPC, process software development & validation and ECO process support.

    + Demonstrate independent understanding and application of core GMP fundamentals, including but not limited to: Data Integrity (DI), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Documentation Practices (GDPs).

    Qualification Requirements

    Credentials/Experience:

    + Bachelors degree with preferred concentration in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering and at least 10+ years of related experience in discrete manufacturing environments that includes precision machining.

    Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:

    + MS in Engineering field and/or MBA a plus.

    + 10+ years of medical or aerospace precision machining/manufacturing experience preferred.

    + 5+ years of technical management/supervisory experience preferred.

    + LEAN, Six Sigma, or other problem-solving/process-improvement certifications, overall continuous improvement mindset.

    + PMP certification Preferred but not a requirement.

    + Proven experience to maintenance and repair programs

    + Proven track record of safety implementation and leadership

    + Experience in a manufacturing environment developing manufacturing standards, manufacturing process in a precision machining environment and with statistical capability experience

    + Experience in problem solving methodologies, root cause analysis, SPC, CAPA, Non conformance management

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Basic financial acumen preferred – P&L knowledge, cost management, capital budgeting

    + Extensive knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering philosophies and processes including methods and standards.

    + Prefer experience operating in lean manufacturing environments – proven practitioner ideal.

    + Experience managing projects large and complex in scope – PMP certification past or present a plus with ability to manage a portfolio of site projects through team effectively preferred.

    + Proven track record in communication – verbal, written, and active listening.

    + Ability to coach and mentor the technical team with emphasis on teamwork, simplicity, prioritization & execution, accountability, and building other leaders.

    Pay Range

    $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 / year
