Job Description

Plan Examination Trainees work alongside seasoned professionals to gain valuable experience, training, and mentoring in the research and review plans for the construction, alteration, or repair of buildings and building equipment systems. There is an opportunity for advancement to Assistant Plan Examiner, Electrical [Civil Service Title: Assistant Electrical Engineer] after one year of satisfactory service, subject to internal and oversight agency approvals; see below exam information.
Receives training in and under close supervision performs work in the electrical engineering analysis of building equipment systems, and the examination of plans for the construction, alteration or repair of buildings’ electrical equipment systems totaling 1000kva or more, under the jurisdiction of the Department of Buildings:
- Reads plans and specifications prepared by licensed professionals to understand the proposed scope of the work and determine conformity with codes, rules, and laws.
- Researches applicable codes, regulations, and rules pertaining to safe and compliant buildings and building equipment systems.
- Prepares preliminary electronic objection sheets for review and markup by a Plan Examiner or Assistant Plan Examiner.
- Researches pertinent codes to evaluate applicant requests for code variances and make recommendations for consideration and discussion with senior staff.
- Researches and interprets the Department’s and other city agency records.
- Evaluates application forms for completeness and accuracy.
EXAM INFORMATION
The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) will be offering an examination for Electrical Engineering Intern in February. The selected candidate will need to take and pass the exam, then be reachable on the list when it is established. Following appointment from the list, Electrical Engineering Intern maturates to Assistant Electrical Engineer after 1 year of satisfactory service. REMOTE WORK
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING INTERN - 20302
Qualifications
1- A baccalaureate degree in electrical or electronic engineering from an accredited college; or
2- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in electrical or electronic engineering technology and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work.
